Only going to get more competitive into the future. More auto admit high stat applications means fewer petition spots. It’s no longer a safety top business school.
Also, Kelley went back to 2020 and earlier level of enrollment.
If you open this workbook, Workbook: uirr_sr_est_official_enrollment_public and sort by campus (Bloomington) and by attribute (class), you can see that Kelley enrolled 1694 freshmen in the Fall of 2023. If you change the term, you will see:
Fall of 2022 - 2272 freshmen
Fall of 2021 - 2527 freshmen
Fall of 2020 - 1672 freshmen
Fall of 2019 - 1725 freshmen
So all those complaints about difficulty getting classes were probably because there were 500-700 more freshman than usual. Fingers crossed this means it is easier to get classes going forward!
But, it is not simply a back to 2020 situation … because if you put “sex” into attribute 2, and then look at the trend … Kelley enrolled hundreds more women as incoming freshmen in 2021 and 2022 than it had previously (and it also enrolled way more men). In 2023, the number of women enrolled as freshman stayed flat from 2022. The difference in total enrollment was a drop of 577 men enrolled as freshman (from 1507 men in the Fall of 2022 to 930 men in the Fall of 2023).
Kelley clearly wanted to move towards gender parity and made that move in a pretty big way last year. I would expect this year’s class to look similar to last year’s.
Where do i submit a review request? I have the application portal.
Follow the directions on the website and on the FAQ page:
Wow - that is quite a difference in the #s. Thanks for sharing.
It is my understanding Kelley is starting to process applications now.
Yahoo! It’s a Tuesday … don’t suppose they will be giving any decisions today …?
I absolutely do not expect any admissions decisions for a week at best and I would guess late Nov as a target compared to checking portal every day. It does the University very little good to admit some kids super early and make others wait.
If a transcript has both Weighted and Unweighted GPA, does Kelley considers the highest score for admission decision?.
Yes - they will use weighted
Has anybody heard from IU/Kelley yet?. From last year tracker, it seems people heard from IU(and Kelley) around Nov 28th. Any thoughts on the earliest date Kelley informs decisions?
Last year Kelley accepted petition reviews as early as Sept 12 and began releasing review request decisions around Nov 28. If you took that same maybe 60 day review period - Jan 1 would be the target expectation date. The time to review is very relevant in the timing.
While people may start getting hopeful now and this is the first week it’s realistic to anticipate any decisions - December 12th-ish is when I would personally target to begin being hopeful and checking portal on the regular.
It’s important to note for expectations that Kelley with a review request deadline of 2/1 is not likely to admit a ton of kids prior to February. It is not an EA college within the University’s EA concept. Nevertheless, Kelley will admit some soon and those will be highly skewed toward high stat applicant women. Kelley’s own somewhat target is to have as many admits attend their direct admit days in March. So that’s what it looks at for ideal decision timing - before then.
Looks like acceptances are coming in but petition results are not with acceptances. I thought I heard they were going to announce together this year. Anyone have any insight?
Consideration for direct admission will be conducted at the point of the initial review for admission to the university. Eligible students will receive notification in their university admission decision. Academic programs that require additional steps or offer a review request/petition process will have unique processes and timelines for direct admission consideration. Students offered direct admission through these processes would receive a separate communication from the school/program.
Has anyone’s student been admitted who has done the review request? I see several kids are being admitted Kelley DA and pre-business on another site. But no one yet who has done the review request. Thoughts?!
My son completed the petition to Kelley DA. He was admitted to IU this week, but he has not gotten the email yet or any news on the petition from the Business School. I’m seeing a lot of admitted students who were automatically DA because of stats. I haven’t seen anyone posting yet that they have heard anything about the petition. Hoping to hear something soon.
Same here!
When did he submit his application? And petition?!
He submitted his application on Sept 24th and I believe the petition was submitted Oct 15.
Providing one more data point: my student applied in September and completed the request for review on September 30. His stats are well above the direct admit metrics, but the high school does not (will not) print a GPA on the transcript, so he needs review. He has been accepted to the University, but is waiting on Kelley.
