IU Kelley to Cornell/Northwestern Transfer

Hello,

I am currently in the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University, and while I wholeheartedly love the curriculum at Kelley, I am considering transfer options, namely, Northwestern or Cornell.

Stats:
Highschool GPA: 3.91 (Average Public School, if important, we have not had a student go to Northwestern/Cornell in what I think has been atleast 4 years).
ACT: 32 Composite
Expected College GPA: 3.85+ (on track and capable, I’d like to set this as if for certain to see chances)
High School ECs: DECA (Business Club).
International Club.
Varsity Volleyball Team
Created own limited-apparel reselling business with own e-commerce site. (This is what I wrote my IU essay on, and most proud of, took majority of my time.
College EC’s: Planning on joining business fraternity.
Financial services Club (precursor to IBanking Workshop)
CEO Club

I am looking to transfer to Northwestern for the amazing economics major they have, which funnels students into great consulting firms (McKinsey, BCG, Bain). It is also about 5 hours closer to home, which is a large factor. Cornell is a wildcard which I’ve always loved and if I’m considering transferring, why not?

Please let me know your honest opinion! Thanks much!

Cornell is a wildcard indeed and I strongly recommend not applying for Dyson – the number of transfers they take can be counted in one hand and most would be from closely-affiliated schools or freshmen deferrals. Cornell is still great though and you should look to apply for regular econ or even any other major since MBB is extremely flexible.

Your stats are competitive and Northwestern is a good reach so all the best of luck! Definitely really tie in your academic and extracurricular interests and emphasize why Northwestern is the perfect fit for you and you might have a 20-30~% shot at getting in.

I also suggest looking into Babson, BU, NYU as they feed to MBB as well. Particularly NYU and Babson. Also if you’re still a freshmen, take the ACT and see if you can get a 33+ just to tighten loose ends for Northwestern and Cornell. You can still get admitted with a 32 but if it’s all the same, why not strengthen your app even further.

Good luck!
