Babson, Kelley, and Nova are extremely close (just throwing BusinessWeek’s latest Ugraduate Business School rankings out there…) I think it comes down to the location, size of the school, and where you want to work when you graduate.

Calcruzer and Ishamig I agree with both your points,

One of the main problem with IU/Kelley is that although the Kelley School is a top 25 undergrad bschool. The overall school doesn’t hold that same type of prestige/credability. It does make a signifcant difference when you have two schools Music and Business that is top notch while the other schools are below par. One can come up with a counter argument and say oh but if your studying in business you’ll be in Kelley however it doesnt work like that… as we all know. you’ll make friends who are outside the business school, greek life, etc. If we put it in this perspective, at the end of the day the Kelley School has approx 4500 undergrads while IU as a whole has about 26,000 students.

Another example. say your a high school senior your ranked in the top 5% of your class, SAT score above 1300, etc your a direct admit to the kelley school of business

now you have a classmate whose in the top 50% of your class and SAT score is around 1100, and your admitted into Indiana.

four years later both you graduated and earned a degree from IU.

absolutely, if you go to Vanillanova or indiana you can change your mind and major in English or history or Latin, but if you go to Babson there’s no changing your major. Business starts from day 1.

“To college2007, the person who has the IU degree saved approximately $80,000 in tuition over four years.”

not true, Babson has very generous need based aid and Villanova gives significant merit aid. For lots of folks they may be cheaper to attend than IU

Babson tuition = $39,040, no automatic scholarships (ignoring NMS)

Villinova tuition = $38,820, no automatic scholarships (ignoring NMS)

From the Villinova website “In the 2009-10 academic year, 80% of the University’s financial aid dollars available to all undergraduate students were awarded primarily on the basis of financial need.”

IU Instate = $7,722

IU OOS = $25,269

IU has automatic scholarships of 2k, 5k, and 9k per year, and these scholarships are relatively easy to get (3.8+ GPA and 30 ACT for the 9k/year scholarship).

Get your facts straight. Unless you get a full ride scholarship to Babson or Nova, based on tuition differences, you are looking at a about a $125,000 difference in tuition over 4 years!

It would never be cheaper to attend Babson or Nova.

“It would never be cheaper to attend Babson or Nova.”

not true

Net cost at Babson for $2,000 EFC is under 10,000 including room and board
Net cost instate at IU is more than that and oos - forget it.
average need based aid at Babson is over $30,000, finaid received by around 50% of apps
average need based aid at Villanova over $27,000, finaid received by around 50% of apps
average aid at IU under $10,000 too low to attract oos students with need.

for full paying customers IU is definitely cheaper than Babson and probably cheaper than Villanova, unless you get a big merit award, but for middle income and lower income folks IU is not accessible oos. That’s one of the advantages Babson and Villanova have, a lot of kids from all over because of the aid. You’re looking at it from the full paying customer point of view, but more than half the students at all these colleges are not full paying customers

@ college2007 - “now you have a classmate whose in the top 50% of your class and SAT score is around 1100, and your admitted into Indiana.”

The person must fulfill a lot of requirements before entering the business school ! IU gives everyone an equal chance to try and get into kelley . A student is not defined only by their SAT scores. How does the SAT determine how creative the student is ?

Bottom line IU gives everyone an equal chance thats what makes it such a great school !
