IU or Miami?

I have been admitted to both the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University as well as the Farmer School of Business at Miami University (the one in Ohio). As I am trying to choose which of these two schools to attend next fall, I’m having some trouble. I am from out of state for both schools, and tuition at Miami will end up being a bit cheaper, but aside from financials, I’m not sure which school is a better fit for me. Originally, I loved Miami because of all of the green space there, which is exactly what i’m looking for in a college campus, and Oxford is also a great town for college students! know that Greek life is very prevalent on the Miami campus…so is it harder to have a decent social life there if you’re not involved in Greek life? At Indiana, I had loved how much school spirit they have, and Kelley is supposed to be a great business school! Any further knowledge on the social/academic life at these two schools would be very helpful, thanks!

My sister went to Indiana as an undergrad and Miami for grad school. She loved Indiana but never seemed very happy at Miami.

Quick search of “Kelley Farmer” brought these up and many others.

simba9, do you think she didn’t like miami because there aren’t many grad students there or for a different reason?

@mandaloo, She was in a Masters/PhD program for Sociology, and didn’t like the department…

She also was a teaching assistant for statistics classes at Miami, and I remember her constantly complaining about how dumb her students were. Knowing my sister, I suspect they were likewise complaining about her ability to teach.

My son was accepted at IU and Miami…both direct admit honors. Since we are from Indiana, the smaller environment at Miami appealed to him. He was young and felt he might get lost at IU. He thrived at Miami…good grades in the honors program… active in his fraternity and intermurals…got a very good job and is now applying to law school. The schools are very different although they seem similar. The lack of grad students at Miami allows for more participation by undergrads, where IU would offer the roles to grad students first. IU has the allure of big sports where at Miami, the kids are in more intermurals. The thing I noticed at Miami is how FIT the kids are. They really USE the rec center. It is a big part of the social scene. The fraternities and sororities are really active in intermurals - for offbeat things - like hockey. The kids just seem to be more involved. I’m an IU alum. The big university environment HAS all of the things the smaller school has…I just don’t see the kids USING them as much!
