I'm currently trying to decide between IU and Penn State... I cannot decide between the two. The main thing that I want to discuss is the school's undergraduate business programs.

Overall, the schools seem very similar. But what are your thoughts on the reputation of an undergraduate business degree from each respective school? How influential are the alumni networks? Will the academic rigor differ between IU and PSU?

I realize that being large, Big Ten, public schools bring many similarities between the two; but can someone point out any outstanding differences that may affect my decision? Thanks in advance!

That is a tough decision. I would give IU the edge for recruitment and program ranking but Penn State has one of the largest and committed alumni networks. Kelley and Smeal are both great business schools. I went with my son and daughter to Penn State. My son liked it but my daughter did not like the campus. I have not see IU yet, but may daughter and I will be at the Red carpet day in March, so I am looking forward to seeing the campus and hearing the presentations. My gut is you cannot go wrong either way. I would recommend campus visits to both, if you did not already check them out, to help make your decision.

You should have given some more info about your situation:

1) Are you direct admitted to Kelley and Smeal?
2) Are you in honors college?
3) The business program of interest to you?
4) Your state of residence?
5) Does COA matter?

Other than that, PSU has a highly ranked engineering school. That could be a plus for some students. IU has the edge for I-banking if you are good enough to get into the workshop. I think these considerations are also true for some schools listed in an earlier thread.

I think indiana does better as far as business school ranking, but Penn State has a great reputation with recruiters and has a higher overall ranking.if you’re not SURE you will stick with business, Penn state might be the better choice. There was an article in the WSJ a couple of years ago and it ranked Penn State very high for where people like to recruit from. My son is wondering the same thing between IU and Maryland. Since MD is in state for us, we are not sure IU is worth it, even with their highest OOS scholarship, which isn’t that much.
