~~~IU Orientation Thread 2009!!!!~~~
I made this thread so people can talk about in general all that pertains to IU orientation, first-year experience programs, and IU as a whole. This is can be a Q & A thread as well.
I will a Kelley DA and Honors student. I got an orientaion date of June 29-30 Schedule A. Is this a bad date in terms of choosing classes? Will I be restricted in my choices?
Do I need a car at IUB>?
gogobet,
I suggest you check out the following thread:
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/indiana-university-bloomington/669294-car-worth.html
well, I am an international and I don’t think I will be going to US before August. Is this recommendable? I heard that there still will be orientation about two weeks before the class starts.
I’m going to June 25-26 orientation Block A. From Massachusetts.
Dare7to7Dream, you will be fine coming in Aug. I don’t now all the plans for the internations but…take at look at IU Beginnings.
Anyone else going on July 7-8 schedule b?
Any parents going to be there July 14-15?
The only problem is that the later the registration, the harder it is to schedule classes. Last year my orintation was on the 11th of July and most of the classes I needed to take were full or the only times left were horrible time slots. I am a business student and all x104 classes were full, k201 only had 6pm classes or later open for labs and 8am open for lecture, econ only had 2 ams open, etc. I would recommend getting a list of 10-12 classes you want to take and bring that with you when you register.
My daughter is going on her own to her June 29-30 orientation. Will I be missing anything important in the parents’ sessions?
I just dug out the parents’ schedule from 2 years ago. There were 2 sessions that I found valuable.
One was a group advising meeting just for Hutton parents–it gave us some insight into the ins and outs of participating in the honors program and registration, in general. Each program has it’s own group advising session.
The second was a session presented by the Bursar’s Office that explained billing issues and how they interact with the Financial Aid Office.
However, while I’m glad we were able to be there, I think we would have managed just fine without attending.
Thanks for the info IllinoisMom. While I’d like to be there too (if for no other reason than it sounds like fun), it didn’t seem worth the cost of another flight and hotel. I’m trying to help her be as prepared as possible for the scheduling part (thanks to all of the great advise on CC), so I think she’ll be fine. She has do be on her own soon enough, so I guess there’s no time like the present.
I wish I could just send my son. He wants me to go, even though he won’t want to be hanging around me.
Also, I tried to tell him about the earlier orientations for better classes, but he didn’t want to go until July.
hey eliza, im june 25,26 blocka as well
Me too. :slight_smile: And as we both know, a bunch of courses were full by the time we got to registering.
