IU Tansfer questions/ chances

I'm planning on transferring to IU next summer (2011) to complete my bachelor when I return from my deployment to Iraq. What interest me about IU is it's PhD in Food Anthropology Program. Anyone know about their Anthropology department, the website is pretty sparse and my advisor is no help since she only knows the in-state schools (Washington) and her alma matter.
Also how selective is admission the only thing the admission web site tells me is that 2.5 is the minimum GPA for non-resident applicants.
My Stats:
GPA - 3.2 @ CC
SAT -1250 - but I took that years ago
Pacific Islander
Military Veteran

Hey brother, I’m ex-military myself and just transferred in. Here’s what I can tell you for sure:

Your military records will be looked at, but not as much as you might hope.

My AAS from the Community College of the Air Force transferred in a LOT credits (number still being determined) but NOT a GPA (despite graduating all my tech schools [weather forecasting and translating] with honors, CCAF doesn’t do GPAs…sigh)…for that they went back 20 years to when I was a Freshman at the University of Minnesota…where I stunk-on-ice, thus inspiring my career in the Air Force in the first place.

After rejection from University division for that less-than-stellar 1.9 from 1989, I walked over to the General Education College and pled my case. They sat me down, plotted a course, accepted my credits and put me in THE SAME classes I would be taking in University Division and kept me right on schedule for my application to Kelly in a couple of months.

Now, your stats look much better than mine, and I suspect you’ll sail through into your program, however, if you don’t, be sure to give the GenEd people a shot…a couple of semesters there is good for the adult transfer’s soul.

Make sure to check with the military office on campus as soon as you get here, good folks down there who can really help navigate the waters.

Good luck!
