I've been planning on attending IU as an English/theatre double major..but I'm starting to get cold feet =P How competitive is this program? I don't want to be a theatre major and not get any parts until my senior year.. I feel it's really important to get college theatre experience and I'm starting to wonder if a smaller school is going to be a better choice.

any insight?

IU's theatre program runs from a BA in Theatre all the way to masters and doctorate levels. Shows are cast with students from all different levels of education, therefore making it more competitive. However, the graduate and doctorate students are admitted by audition only, so there are much fewer of them than there are undergraduates. The undergraduates are immensely talented students, and the program can be considered competitive, in my opinion. In my other opinion, one should not run from competition in theatre. If you think it's bad at the university level, it's worse in the real world.

Hope you choose to study theatre at IU. I will be.

Thanks for the reply :)

I'm not trying to avoid competition, and I'm aware that theatre in the "real world" is extremely competitive. I just feel that in order to be able to compete professionally, I'm going to need college theatre experience, which is why I'm worried that IU will be so competitive I won't get that.

It's scary-- I've never had to compete theatrically-- theatre isn't particularly competitive at my high school.. I just have no idea how I'll compare with other students.

It's a difficult decision for me.

thanks again :)
