IU v UMich-Bus.

I have been accepted to University of Michigan and Indiana University Bloomington. I'm probably going in as a history major, but I intend to transfer into the business school at either university. Michigan will cost 35k-40k compared to Indiana, to which I received a scholarship, between 15K-20K. I understand that Ross is a phenomenal business school, but I know Indiana's is also considered to be top 10-15. So overall, where would everyone recommend I attend. I will be seeking graduate studies, is Ross valued significantly higher than Kelley? Is it worth nearly 20k more?

IU's Kelley + $20k in your pocket > UMich's Ross

Only is Wall Street is your #1 goal. In the midwest they place about the same.

^ Agreed. Ross is more actively recruited by the financial industry than Kelley.

Not just Wall Street. Michigan is also highly recruited by West Coast firms and Management Consulting firms. Companies like Bain, Booz Allen, BCG, McKinsey and Mercer, as well as companies like Google, Intel, Microsoft and Oracle all recruit heavily at Michigan.

If the OP is interested in working for one of the Big 4 (D&T, E&Y, PwC etc...) or a major Midwestern/East Coast company like P&G, GM, GE etc..., or if he intends to major in History, I agree that he should save his money and go with Indiana. However, if the OP intends to major in Business and then join an exclusive company on either coast, I would recommend Michigan.

Of course, if the $20k difference translate into a huge loan, then I would say go for Indiana. It is never worth going too much into debt.

IU's Kelley + $20k in your pocket + more or less 'guaranteed' admission > UMich's Ross
