I'm torn between these two. I am intersted in business for sure, and Kelley is definitley superior to whatever Madison has to offer, but madison has a great economics program. I feel pretty guilty about this, but UW has a ton more prestige. I need some advice. Ultimately I believe the place that will get me a better Ibanking job or land me in a good MBA program is the place to go. So, what do you guys think? Thanks

If you can get into Wisconsin, then you can get a 6-7K/year scholarship at Indiana. It would then be saving around 24-28K to go to IU. I applied to both, got into both, and chose IU. It's better for business, and honestly, it's not that much of a difference in prestige. IU has a peer assessment of 3.8, Wisconsin, 4.2. It's a noticable difference, but employers aren't going to hold it against you. You aren't going to get any different oppurtunities at Wisconsin than you will at Kelley. For I-Banking, it has much better placement, they have I-Banking clubs, and recruiters come on campus and offer internships. Also, visit both campuses, especially if finances aren't a concern.

yazzz: I recommend try to get some numbers, i.g. IB firms coming to campus and # of accepted jobs, where grads go for MBA etc, with career services at both schools. Also worth e-mailing the IB clubs at both schools. Here's the one for Wisc: http://www.wiscibc.com/IBC/index.html

Wisconsin has some good publicity lately for the number of alums running S&P 500 and specialized MBA programs.

I second A2Wolves6 suggestion. Try to visit both schools before making a decision. Will you buy a car (in this case, a really expensive one) without first test drive it? Go to the one that you believe you are mostly likely to excel because school reputation alone won't carry you far.

Thanks for the advice. That bit about the number of Fotune 500 CEOs and tieing with Harvard, is really interesting and I had no I idea. Also, the info about the investment club is great. That really works for Madison.
I've heard that IU has 27% of students place in IBanking. Is that true? Anyone know the stats for wisconsin?
Something different.
Are there any prominent faculty and is Kelley a place to network? NYU has really trumpeted the fact that Networking is great at Stearn so I was wondering.
Thanks

I don't know about the faculty connections, although I do know that Business Week named Indiana's faculty #1 in the nation, judging on teaching though. Marc Cuban is an alumnus (Dallas Mavericks owner), same with John Chambers (Cisco Systems). They have an alumni network over 77,000.

yazzz: I seriously believe that both Kelley and Wisconsin are good stepping stone to your goals. Bear in mind that IB and top MBA programs are highly competitive, so-so performance in either program won't cut it. Let me emphasis again the importance to choose the best environment where you can honestly do very well.

Thanks for the advice, I plan on doing well! Probably at Kelley!

Good luck!

I don't think Madison takes students directly into business so you have a risk and maybe you can't strart studying business right away.
