IUB, Purdue, or IUPUI for students aiming for IUSM

My son is a high school Junior aiming for Medical school. I can not afford the expenses for private or out-of-state colleges. I am trying to find out if there are any advantages/disadvantages for him to go to IUB, Purdue or IUPUI. Many of his classmates will go to IU or Purdue. However, IUPUI has an excellent BA-MD honor program. If he can get into that program, I would like for him to seriously consider IUPUI as his undergraduate college. He would probably choose Biochemistry as his major in any case.

1) Would the professors at these three universities equally emphasize teaching?
2) Would the research opportunities for undergraduates be about the same?
3) Would the Summer Research/Intern opportunities be comparable?
4) Which university would better prepare students for MCAT/medical school?

Your advice is greatly appreciated.

I was an ambassador for the Office of Campus Visits at IUPUI last years, so know the school well.

1) Many professor are at IUPUI vs. IU-B,because they WANT to teach students, while doing conducting research. As a freshmen my largest class had 60 people with my smallest being 14. The profs. here know must of their students, which comes in handy when recommendations are needed.

2) Research opportunities at IUPUI are great for Pre-Med students, since IUSM is on campus. I know many students who have jobs working in the Labs, and offices of IUSM. By taking advantage of all the opportunities offered at IUPUI,it will really show that your son is committed to IUSM.

3) YES!!

4) Equal among all schools.

My best advice it to visit the schools, and choose the school that will allow you to get what you what out of your education. So if want the greek life go to Purdue, Parties-IUB, IUSM opportunity during school year-IUPUI .

Most importantly make sure you let HIM decide which school is the right fit.

GOOD LUCK!!!
