IUB/SUNY at Buffalo?

Hi, everyone..

I've just got admitted to transfer to IU-Bloomington (and I'm optimist that I'll get into UB as well). I'm having tough time to decided between Indiana Univ Bloomington (Kelley) vs. University at Buffalo's School of Management.

I'm planning to major in Accounting & Finance. IU is #75 in US News Rank, while UB is #118. IU has definitely higher rank, but I don't think that makes a lot of differences.

The OOS tuition in Kelley is about $23,000 while the OOS tuition in UB is only about $11,000. And that’s my biggest concern.

City wise, Buffalo is bigger than Bloomington. They both relatively have the cold weather (although Buffalo has a lot more snow). They have tons of international students, which make both of their student bodies huge and diverse. Both univs are crazy about their sport teams. There are a lot of parties and drinking involved in both campus.

About job opportunities, out of 887 IUB’s student, 21 students got into PWC, 20 students got into Ernst & Young, and 19 students got into KPMG. The average first year salary for accounting grads: $52,304. In UB, out of 669

UB’s student: 14 students got into Deloitte, 13 students got into PWC, and 11 students got into Citibank. The average first year salary for accounting grads: $44,997 and $53,455 for Internal Auditing. (Note that I only listed the top 3 recruiters.)

From those stats alone, I believe they have more or less about the same quality, academically, maybe socially. Besides, there are more companies that have local branches in Buffalo (including those Big 4). Buffalo also has the advantage of NYC recruiters.

Then what makes Kelley has better rank? What makes Kelley "the top business school in US"? Is it worth the money? Has Kelley School of Business been overrated?

I've posted this thread before in IUB's threads, but I would like to know more opinions from international students.

So, for all of you, international students who are attending either IUB/SUNY UB right now, please convince me to go to your school! Any suggestions welcome! Thanks a lot.

I've heard of IU's Kelley Business School. Sooo yeah....

thx for the reply, but not really helpful. anyone has other suggestions?

bump..bump..

What makes Kelley "the top business school in US"?

If you talk about business schools, then generally people will mention Wharton, Sloan, Stern, Haas, McIntire, Ross, Tepper... But not really Kelley.

You left out Marshall.

I understand Kelley isn't wharton, but still IUB has decent rank in every business school rank compare to SUNY Buffalo. And in this case, I'm not searching for 'the best' business school in US. I'm not smart and wealthy enough to get into those schools you've mentioned. These two are my only options. So, I'm only trying to figure out which one is better.

^Just correcting your statement about "top business schools" (which are very debatable anyway).

Can't help you much with the rest, but as I've said in my post in your other thread, going to a better target school will improve your chances of getting good employment. Only you can decide on how much the 2x more expensive tuition at IU is going to be worth it for better job placement afterwards, since only you know your financial situation best.

addendum: but then again, don't rely too much on the salary figures 'cos that applies mostly in the US, and you know that it's pretty hard to get a job there as an international student, as discussed before also. When you come back, we really don't know how you will fare in local banks. You know both IU and UB are less heard of in Asia/Indonesia. There's a good chance that both will give you almost equal salary range over here.
