IUP

Hey there, I was browsing around for colleges and found Indiana University of Pennsylvania. The instate tuition is extremely cheap (8k) which is amazing for me.
Besides the tuition, is this school any good academically?
I am thinking about majoring in Biology or doing some type of Pre-Med.

Around here (western PA), it’s known as a party school. But if you can get into the Cook Honors College, I’ve heard that’s a great experience. I took the CHC Summer Honors Program last summer.

It’s pretty average, not too demanding - an okay choice if you’re a 2.7-3.0 student, mostly regular classes, SAT in the 1500-1600s.
For the same cost, you have Slippery Rock (stronger) and West Chester (better academically).
Don’t just look at sticker price: look for private colleges where you’ll be in the top 25% students and run the net price calculators.
What are your stats? How much can your parents afford?

Does being in the Cook Honors College insulate the academically focused kids from the party school reputation? Seems the students who live in the Honors donor have a strong work ethic. My S is looking for a school that doesn’t have excessive party scenes. Concerned about the notes above that indicate IUP has a Party School reputation.
