Hi guys,

I am new here. I just had a question. I wanted to know if it is better to go to IVC/Saddleback, OCC/Golden West/Coastline, or IVC/OCC. I want to transfer in two years, and I am confused because I am hearing that nowadays students don't get into the classes they want as a new student, so they have to wait for another few semesters for that one class. I really want to just finish my transfer work in two years. So what do you guys recommend?

Thanks!

In my experience, the classes at IVC require a little bit more work, but there is supposedly a notion amongst universities that the students from there are more prepared. I heard this from a student in ASG on campus. Many of the lower level GE classes have gotten full really fast the last two semesters at IVC, and petitioners had no luck getting in either.

Coastline has a lot more online classes, but by now may of them are full. You can still find some openings, and you might get lucky with the people who are still adding and dropping, because school stats on the 30th of Aug. I had to sign up for a few classes at Coastline, and I got them today. GWC has some openings as well.

The online classes are not necessarily hard, but you definitely need to have discipline because getting behind in them is really easy as you are your own boss so to speak. Remember to keep up with the deadlines if you take online classes.

With the current recession, a lot more people are going back to school and thus the community colleges have been impacted by it pretty hard. The budget cuts don’t help either.

Good luck.

I was an IVC student. What is your major? Which community college you should attend will depend a lot on what your major is. If you’re looking to transfer to a UC for biology, definitely choose OCC.
