I've already got a good SAT score - should I take the ACT?

I got my SAT scores this morning and I did well enough on my 1st time that I'm definitely not retaking [2330]. Now, would there be any benefit to also taking the ACT, or is my SAT score enough to just let it be?

[Basically, without the "You-might-do-better-on-the-ACT" thing, are there any merits to taking both? I know some colleges offer some sort of credit or something for it]

i got the same score on the SAT as you did in oct (first time) =) . I'm contemplating taking the ACT, but what you should really do is take advantage of the fact that the SAT I is out of the way to focus on SAT II's.

Yeah, I'm doing my SAT II's in June or so. They mostly coincide with my AP's so it should be OK.

Any other opinions?

S got 2360 and was debating about the ACT. The counselor suggested he take it since he had nothing to lose (you don't have to send the scores anywhere if you don't want to). He got a 36 and qualified for Presidential Scholar. He took the SAT2s also, but I think that many schools don't require them if you take the ACT.

J'adoube's right. Some schools "seem" to require SAT II subject tests in addition to SAT I. But if you read the fine print, a lot of those same colleges will actually allow you to submit the ACT With Writing instead of the SAT II's.

That would be one reason to take the ACT.

Plus, you're apparently pretty good at these standardized tests, and pretty darned smart. So why not have the ACT with Writing in your hip pocket? It's just one Saturday of your life and it will drive home your awesomeness when you ace it! (And if it doesn't, you don't need to submit it. Nothing to lose but a Saturday and a "few" bucks!)

I meant to emphasize ... if you do decide to take the ACT, be sure to sign up for the writing section with it. It costs a little extra and takes a little more time, but the colleges we researched that ask for ACT want it with the writing portion.

Bah, I guess I should take the ACT, then. I just don't like the idea of doing the preparation for another test.

It's not like I spent a lot on it [I bought the Blue Book, and that was it] but I did spend ~30-40 hours taking the practice tests.

I suppose I should start prepping then >_>

Besides doing a sample test to check your timing, you shouldn't have to prep.

I can only see two reasons to take the ACT. If your state requires it for some in-state scholarships (ours does) or if you think you'll apply to schools where it can substitute for the SAT IIs. As previously stated, some schools will take the ACT in lieu of the SAT IIs but many will not.
