I applied to 14. I have some weird circumstances going on with my app that makes me a "maybe" everywhere, but not really a for sure anywhere, so I figured, better safe than sorry.

I'm applying to 19

hah i applied to 5 and i would only consider going to 2 of them.

now that makes even less sense than applying to 35

Once you get past 20 schools, you're looking at paying a grand or more.

I started out with a list of 20 schools (ended up being 19, because I dropped a college in the process). Wellesley luckily had fee waver for online submissions, but I wasn't so luckily anywhere else.

Frankly, it was incredibly easily to do a lot of the applications. I had a stock set of 4 essays, and I mixed and matched essays for different colleges. They worked, except for those pesky "Why" essays; those I used a similar format for each though.

I'd say the hard part of applying to many schools is keeping track of what you've done and what you still need to do for which college. Worst would be if you send the wrong material to the wrong college (luckily, that hasn't happened to me yet.) But it's a pain in the butt doing the financial aid right now; I have to dig through 19 separate websites every day checking the financial aid info, and what's due.

Personally, I applied to this many colleges because I have poor GPA because of a lackluster sophomore year, but have outstanding (and maybe beyond) SATs and extracurriculars/awards. Some colleges might look past my GPA, others might reject because of my GPA. I don't know which would do what, so I'm taking my gamble and applying to all that fits my fancy.

I'll put them in order of how I think I will do with acceptances, from absolutely in to unlikely.

Purdue(accepted), USC, Michigan (accepted), Northwestern, Cornell, Penn, Columbia

I applied to 10 and all the kids in my class thought I was applying to alot. Most of my friends only applied to about 4 or 5 colleges, which my school encourages. Also people apply to more and more colleges because of a low acceptance rate but its only that low because kids are applying to 20+ schools now. Thats just ridic.

34

9 in the US, 25 in India

(23/25 are through one application ;))

I applied to 7 schools and I think I did too much.

9 schools, I think I have a good list

reaches: penn, brown, duke, WUSTL

matches: notre dame, vanderbilt, Northwestern (match, but 9 kids are applying)

safties: Ohio State, Miami (OH) and I got into both honors programs

harvard,
yale
princeton
johns hopkins
cornell
ucla
berkeley
uc san diego
uc irvine
uc davis
upenn
stanford
u.s.c.

2250 sat, perfect grades, 760us,770bio,800math 2
DO YOU THINK THAT I AM A REACH TO ANY OF THESE.?
THANKS

Harvard, Yale, Princeton, UPenn and Standford are, without a doubt, reaches...for anyone.

I have the exact same stats (literally) and you're a reach at every ivy and stanford. Cornell might be a reach/match.

Good luck.

I applied to 23 :(

I have tons of reaches and lots of safeties. After a certain number of apps, each one seemed like a piece of cake because they were all blended together in terms of essays.

I got into Wash U yesterday which is my 7th pick on my list, so I guess I wasted some serious time and money on the safeties... oh well, better safe than sorry!

I was in the same situation as Syneria, I had below average GPA, 3.3 UW, 3.95W and good SAT's 2210 (M790 CR730 W690) and great essays/EC... so i wasnt sure if my SAT's would override my GPA. So I played it safe and applied to lots of safe schools and threw a bunch of reaches out hoping that someone would bite. So far Wash U

I applied to Duke, Penn, Cornell, Brown, Dartmouth, WashU, Notre Dame, Boston College, Georgetown, William and Mary, UVM, UConn, Trinity, Umiami, Washington and Lee, Colgate, Colby, Hamilton, Holy Cross, Bucknell, Villanova, Umass and TUFTS!

wow, what a waste of money... grrrr

Look Above You....roger Dooley Opened A Thread Asking How Many Colleges People Applied To

11? You are small time kid. lol he makes a thread for 11.... :D

WOW, you're like another me! I have 3.3 UW/3.94 W, with 2230 SATs. And I have great essays+EC too!

I applied to Duke, Cornell, Dartmouth, Boston College too! Wow, we have a lot in common.

Now what would be really scary is if you say you did school newspaper (journalism), a debate club or tennis too.

No , didnt do any of those... but i do play varsity baseball, i founded a chapter of SADD at my school, and founded a website design club. I teach Sunday school and have ajob

d applied to 13 but is now only seriously considering 4, this last month to go is tough to wait it out for acceptance decisions!
