I've been accepted to NYU POLY for the Spring 2011 semester. However, it reads "Yes, I plan to enroll at Polytechnic Institute of New York University* *Please note that the offer of acceptance is only for the term stated in your acceptance letter." So will I have to re-apply come summer/fall? Their entrance fees seem a bit steep: $300 for commitment, $400 for housing, $225 for required software, and throw in ~$500 for a laptop.

Anyone go to NYU POLY here? I'm on the fence between Poly and CCNY where I was also accepted. CCNY has been difficult to work with but it is so much cheaper. Also, how well does NYU POLY work with veterans? Their VA office has been hard to get a hold off. I have the full 9/11 Bill to cover the costs.

Anyone care to sell me on POLY and/or CCNY?

In the end, I just need the sheepskin as I have the career experience and the certifications.

Thank you for your time.

I think you will be better off with CCNY. I just do not think the edge in education quality from NYU Poly justifies its much higher tuition. You might as well save the money by going to CCNY and either reinvest the savings or start a business in the future. In the long run, where you received your engineering degree does not make a difference at all in your career.

You have been admitted for the Spring semester. That means if you decide that you don’t want to START then, you will have to reapply.

As for specific veterans advice, you could ask that in the Veterans sub-forum under the topic of “Specialty College Admissions” at the top of this forum. Someone in that forum might know someone who has experience with the Veterans offices at one of the universities you are looking at. For general discussion of CCNY vs. POLY, you could check out the New York State Colleges sub-forum. The link to that one is at the top of the College Search & Selection Forum.

For most engineering programs, what really matters is that the program is ABET accredited. For a current list see: http://www.abet.org/accrediteac.asp

Wishing you all the best!
