I've been dismissed, what can i do now?

I had a bad quarter with a term GPA of less than 1.00 (series of bad events) that dropped my overall GPA to 2.33. I sent my personal statement and a signed 3 quarter plan and whatnot but I just got an email telling me all my courses have been dropped and my money refunded.

I am seeing a counselor tomorrow morning, and is there any way I can turn this around and still attend my classes for this quarter? I am really freaking out

^^ sorry to hear that. just as background info (and so as not to freak incoming freshmen out), is there anything that you did to contribute to your dismissal that you are willing to share? what are some things incoming students can avoid in order to have a more successful transition? were u taking on more than you could handle? not studying consistently? skipping discussion and/or lectures?

and i understand if you are unwilling to discuss anything right now since this just happened. not meaning to be insensitive. i’m the parent of an incoming freshman.

A combination of things I guess… taking too hard of a class without taking its prerequisites, difficult math class (thought i understood it but apparently not…), and most embarrassing is my alarm clock dying one night and causing me to miss a final

Also the same quarter I burned down my kitchen, that made me try to look for a job for a bit to pay for repairs

it was just a trainwreck of a quarter. To a parent, i would tell them that the biggest pitfall is lulling yourself into believe its okay to miss one or two classes, cause if you miss one or two you’re gonna wanna miss three and four and so on

Ouch, sorry to hear that. Did you speak to your advisor/counselor prior to being dropped? In many cases, they have to power to grant an appeal, but seeing as your GPA was below a 1.0, that may have been grounds to the dismissal. Hopefully the conditions for returning will be a simple matter of attending summer session(note:read it carefully! I had a friend who felt like he wasted his time at a community college because his condition stated that only summer session would get him back in school… long story short, he’s back in school now :)) and passing those classes with B’s or higher. Have they told you what you need to do yet?
