I've been getting mail from really selective colleges. Does this happen to everyone?

That sounds like good news to me. What would you call 'top grades', though?

Hey, ***? I got much higher than you on the PSAT, Murasaki, yet I haven't heard from any Ivies, NYU, or Tufts. Main ones have been UWash, Northwestern (twice until I finally registered), USC, and Reed! Oh, and Skidmore or whatever it's called.

:(

That shows inaccuracy of letter, I guess. But I'm sure crap like region, indicated interest, etc. plays into it.

muraski, by top grades, I mean A's or close to A's.

Oh, I see, that's what I thought.

My dad said to me a few years ago, when those letters started pouring in, that those letters are like "HEY! WE WANT YOU! AND YOUR MONEY! (But your money more, of course)" messages.

It still hasn't left my mind.

Hmm, if you mean money from application fees, you might be right, but I think that there are plenty of colleges out there that admit, and have apply, more kids than can fill all the spots in the freshman class to pay the moola.

Your PSAT score makes a difference, but it's mainly just colleges buying your address. When I was first beginning my college search, I got mail from all sorts of colleges that I probably wouldn't be able to get into (especially Washington University in St. Louis!!!!)

Hey that stuff about Harvard wanting more minorities isn't true.

All the white seats are just taken by legacies. Sorry.

Does WUSTL have a high fees to cover for the amount of paper and mailing charges?

WUSTL sent me so much stuff...it's pretty crazy. So did Tulane.

The other top schools I got mail from were Harvard, Yale, Brown, Cornell, Stanford, UPenn, Northwestern, Chicago, UCLA, UCSD, USC, Rochester, Case Western, and NYU. (I didn't pay attention to LACs...I had quite a bit there too)

Plenty of mail comes in your junior and senior years. If you find one interesting, take a look at it. If not, don't bother. There'll be more than enough mail than you can read.

For a while after I started getting the stuff, I would fill out an info request card for every one, just because I liked getting mail... LOL. Funny thing is, none of them sent me any additional stuff. Wonder why...
