I've been Waitlisted

What am I suppose to do know?

I've been accepted to few other Universities but UCF was the main University I wanted to go to in Florida.

Hey Midknite, what were your stats ? Still deferred w/a 3.1 (bad 9th grade year) and 24 ACT. Did your status just change today ?

Looks like we applied to alot of the same places for AE. I live very close to UCF and really dont want to stay so close to home. Have you been to the campus yet?

No, I live up north.

Embry accepted me but I don’t really like the male to female ratio.

I would wait but if I get rejected then the wait would’ve been for nothing.

Also financial aid is an issue.

My current GPA is 3.17 uw I think that’s with my first semester grades but I’m not really sure though.

My gpa seemed to jump a bit due to a mistake on my transcript but not by much.

I’ll be retaking the SAT this week hopefully I do good on it and I pretty sure I can make honors this semester if I don’t get lazy.

How do I change my major to undecided? Where do I go to see my ucf GPA?

UCF calculates GPA with all of your academic courses + 3 academic electives (ask your guidance counselor which electives count) - 18 credits total. Weighted GPA uses all the academic classes that you have taken (math, english, foreign language, social studies, science) and the grade that you received. An A is a 4.0, B is a 3.0, C is a 2.0. Add a half point (.5)for honors classes and a full point (1.0) for AP or IB classes. So, a B in a honors class is 3.5 but a B in an AP class is 4.0. Add up your points and divide by the total number of academic classes that you listed.

I don’t know how to change major except to email the admissions office and tell them. They are relatively responsive.

Can someone please tell me why some applicants are deferred or waitlisted and why some are offered summer admission. Thanks. I am from OOS and I do not understand summer admission.

My D found out she was deferred today. She can’t figure it out. She is a transfer student with a 4.0 from a CC in Florida. Her HS GPA was above a 4.0. Her SAT scores are from the old SAT and are a 1350. She has gotten into schools that are ranked much higher. She is OOS. She can’t figure out what she could send them to improve her chances. She thought UCF was going to be a sure thing.

That just does not make sense. A 4.0 and deferred? Maybe someone else can explain this. I do not understand how admissions at UCF operates.

maybe she didn’t fulfill all of her prerequisites for her major?

My D will soon be turning down her acceptance… that’s a spot opening up for fall. Decided to attend UF.

mom60, you should call the admissions office and make sure they have all of her info. That’s pretty sad if she can’t transfer w/a 4.0 / 1350 - that’s rediculous. You can also request an immediate decision if you are deferred - but I called yesterday and the girl I spoke to recommended I wait it out, if possible (but that’s b/c I have a 3.1). The girl also said that as of May 1 all accepted applicants must accept or their slots officially open back up.

They make kids start in summer that don’t meet fall requirements (GPAs or other scores are lower) - but at least you get in.

I can’t accept a summer because it is too early and I’ll need to pack, leave right after graduation, and catch a plane to Florida. That is just too much work.

I hope they can offer me a fall semester spot after UF, USF, and Miami U take away a few guys.

PV, thanks. I was wondering if that was the case. Do those that start in the summer take remedial courses or does the school just figure that an eatly start will be enough to make up for any deficiencies?

They may make you take an English and Math in the summer - I’m not really sure - but it shouldn’t be remedial if the ACT / SAT scores are high enough - and they should be. I think it’s just a way to get summer enrollment up and ensure you pass the summer classes before allowing you to register for fall.

Midknite- We accepted the summer enrollment, live in WA, and have to do the same thing that you mentioned…getting on a plane the next day after graduation for orientation, flying back home (WA) after orientation…then flying back to FL again for summer classes to start. Yeah, it’s a pain in the neck…but at least he’ll be going to UCF. It can be done if you really want UCF bad enough.

I don’t think you take remedial classes in the summer, as long as your scores are high enough to be considered ‘college ready’. My teacher told me it was an 18 on the ACT… not sure about the SAT though. I think you WILL have to take a remedial math class if you don’t do to well on the math placement exam though.

Before my son got accepted for the Summer term, he took UCF’s online math placement test and was recommended for Calculus I. That’s definitely not a remedial class… Maybe since he is OOS, they want to give him the Summer term to get used to the campus before everyone else shows up in the fall? It doesnt really matter why some kids are selected for the Summer term and some for the Fall, if everyone is required to do one Summer term before you graduate…right? The Summer term kids will have that out of the way then…

Thanks everyone. My son had a 25 on the ACT so although he is below the UCF average he should be OK. He is a little bummed about having only 2 weeks off before he has to go to Orlando but he is honestly just so excited to be going at all that he cannot wait. The one problem is that he will not be able to work this summer. Oh well, next year.
