I've decided! I'm coming to USC!

For those of you who see me hanging around the USC boards, you probably noticed I like lists. We have a great group of ccers who post here, some are former/current USC students, some former/current parents, and lots of graduating HS seniors and students thinking of applying in the years ahead. We really like to share your progress and celebrate or commiserate with all of you. So here’s the thread. If you have decided you are going to matriculate to USC (YAY) please post your good news here.

ohkay, CA, Marshall Biz… This was three years ago… but I turned down regents scholarships to UCLA, UC Berkeley, Johns Hopkins, Princeton, Stanford, Cal Tech, Pomona College, Dartmouth to come to USC because of the Trojan spirit, academics, Greek life, and overall fit for my personality. I gotta admit, it was a tossup between Princeton (dad’s Alma Mater) and USC, but I’m glad my mother allowed me to stay in Socal and not go far away! I would probably be another pretentious prick at Princeton right now if I had gone there.

ohkay, that is an incredibly impressive list of schools you turned down to go to USC. Have you ever looked back to second guess your decision or has USC lived up to your expectation?

Fight On!

To tell you the truth, the only time that I ever looked back on my decision was last Spring when I was looking for a summer internship. After being rejected by a few firms, I said to myself “oh gee, I bet wall street would be knocking on my door right now if I had gone to an ivy league,” but guess what? I utilized the career center and found a great summer internship with a Fortune 50 company and have been asked to return after I graduate with a full time offer. The salary is competitive and similar to what I would get if I graduated from a top 10 school.

I have no regrets whatsoever. The students here are beautiful, the attitude here is one of pride and love for the school, and the weather here is great.

I also realized throughout my years here that USC actually have a lot of students who rejected Ivy leagues and other top ranked schools to come here. It’s this kind of passion for ones school that will make USC unique and special in every single way compared to a traditional research heavy and academic intensive ivy league

That’s a great testimony for other future USC candidates.

Fight On!

ohkay, CA, Marshall Biz… This was three years ago… but I turned down regents scholarships to UCLA, UC Berkeley, Johns Hopkins, Princeton, Stanford, Cal Tech, Pomona College, Dartmouth to come to USC because of the Trojan spirit, academics, Greek life, and overall fit for my personality. I gotta admit, it was a tossup between Princeton (dad’s Alma Mater) and USC, but I’m glad my mother allowed me to stay in Socal and not go far away! I would probably be another pretentious prick at Princeton right now if I had gone there.

The Dragon, SoCal, Physical Therapy. I decided against Columbia, WUSTL, and Pitt. It was a hard decision but Alumni Network and future networking possibilities were the clincher. For PT’s the best advice I got was, “go to school where you’ll want to work and live when you’re done”. Rankings don’t really matter but having the top people in your field being your instructors means that you’re on the cutting edge of information that other people won’t get till later. Plus can you really beat the weather, girls, and social scene? nope.
