I have been in contact with many of you lately questioning different boarding schools...well, i've finally limited it down to my favorites based on my stats and everything...

not in order of preference:

1) Deerfield Academy
2) St. George's School
3) St. Paul's School
4) Pomfret School
5) Northfield Mount Hermon
6) Phillips Exeter Academy

That's a good mix of schools. I'm happy to see that you included a few schools that are excellent, but not just the most competitive. Some schools will allow you to visit in May taking a tour only and not an interview. If you can do this, I think you will find it very helpful. You can refine your list by developing more criteria. For example, you may find that Exeter is too large for you or that Pomfret is too small. You may find that you prefer the informality of a place like NMH than the formality of St. George's. As you develop your criteria, you can post it; I'm sure people will have more suggestions based on that.

Okay thanks burbparent! i ititially really wanted to apply to 8 of the 10 schools from the TSAO, but then decided to look at great ones that aren't as "prestigious." These were my top 6 out of the ones i have researched so far...

& to add more criteria, the school needs a strong science and math department, friendly people, campus that makes you feel at home, latin program, crew, squash, tennis, cross country, and dance. I don't really care about the size, as long as they preserve strong social relations with students to students and students to teachers.

What are your reasons for not wanting to apply to Andover, Groton, Choate, or Middlesex? All are on or near the same level as Exeter, SPS, and Deerfield on your list.

I am a concentrated dancer and middlesex has a minor program, groton has no program at all, and i liked choate, but i want to apply to both reaches and matches. Deerfield, SPS, Exeter, and SGS are reaches that have personal things that i like about them. Although Pomfret, and NMH aren't the most competitive, I like them again for very personal reasons.

really? i'll have to visit next year. i was dissapointed because they didn't have much about their arts program on their website so i assumed it wasn't that important to them.

I would suggest Choate, Andover... possibly Blair? Peddie? Lawrenceville? All great.. I don't know about their dance programs.

And I'm not sure why you applied to SGS.. it doesn't seem to fit you! I mean, I'm not too up to date at the moment, but do they even have a dance program? SPS is definitely a fit for you ..except for that verbal score.. they're big on humanities. Do you read a lot? Read more! Look at the books for the courses at each of these schools. Also, start on SAT Vocab. Many of the SAT words are SSAT words as well. I started SAT vocab in 9th grade, and I didn't even have to study SSAT vocab because I knew all of them.. just from studying a few SAT words in my spare time (if you have a mac, get iFlash -- it's a simple app w/ online flashcards..

haha yea sgs does have a dance program. & i never read but somehow do well on reading tests. i do have a mac so i'll do that thing..i'll probably pm you on further instruction...i bet if i worked on vocab i could increase my score. I love blair. I will probably replace that with sgs.

They increased the price 3 dollars! Lol.. HA! I saved 3 bucks.

Theres a student on here that was applying to Andover as a day student but had low SSAT scores.. I sent her really in-depth instructions on how to raise her score.. she followed my advice and the SSAT score increased like 20-40 points ..in a few weeks! I should start charging..
