I've gotta ask it too...

I posted this in the "What are my chances" forum but I think a lot of the people that replied are kids trying to act like they know what's up. Since this is the FSU forum, I thought it would be more fitting here...

So I ask you this -- What are my chances?

White female, Florida Resident

Current weighted GPA: 4.0
unweighted: 3.5
Predicted GPA at the end of 1st semester 06-07: at LEAST .2 higher.

Courses for senior year:
AP Calculus
AP Music Theory
DE Comp I/Comp II
DE Government/International Relations
Wind Ensemble
Symphonic Band
Concert Band or Percussion Techniques or Jazz II

(my school is a public arts-magnet high school and I'm a music major there.. yeah it's weird).

SAT: (will be retaken very soon... and will score a lot higher... 1st time had some other outside issues that affected me on test day... it's all good though...) 1730; Math 590, CR 540, Writing 610, Essay 10

EC's: 4 years marching band (3 years as Low Brass SL and Band Captain), 4 years winter drumline (3 years as percussion capt), 4 years various honor bands, 1 (maybe 2) years SW Florida Symphony Youth Orchestra, 2 years German Club, 2 years NHS. Next year I plan to join SGA and Interact Club for a Cancer Awareness LiveSTRONG project I'm working on.

Special stuffs: french horn player (not easy!), have also dedicated time to all of the brass family, piano, and guitar. Music audition shouldn't be too hard to pass. Athletically very active, just don't have the time for high school sponsored sports.

College Major: Music Education, possible engineering minor

Just need to get that SAT up or try the ACT. French horn is a great instrument to play and usually can be a "hook" however, I happen to know someone from South Florida who is also planning on going to FSU for Fall '07 and who also plays the French Horn (she made all state this year!). She has similar EC's to you (marching band, drumline, plays trumpet in jazz band, NHS, color guard, relay for life, lots of AP classes). The girl I know is also going to be national merit commended and wants to study Music Education too.
You have some competition so you do need to get those standardized testing scores higher.

Also, if this helps...

Courses:

8th grade: gifted Algebra I (HS credit)

9th: Honors Geometry, Honors English I, Honors Biology, German I, IC3 (computers), 1st sem: concert band/2nd sem: wind ensemble, Jazz I

10th: Honors Chemistry, Honors Algebra II, Honors English II, AP World History, German II, Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band

11th: Honors Physics, Honors Pre-Calculus, AP English Language, Honors US History, Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band, Jazz II

Summer '06 through Florida Virtual School: Personal Fitness, Life Management Skills, Honors Economics

12th listed above.

Thanks.

If your (musical) playing ability during audition is impressive, you'll get in.

If it's average (remember that we're talking about the FSU Music program, so that means you're super, but the competition is extreme), then what seiclan says is valid.

Take prep courses for the SAT and ACT. Take both exams multiple times, this is how many kids boost scores. Both FSU and UF take only the best combination of scores.

Remember the Community Service work - good for Bright Futures and admission.

Keep the grades up senior year.
