Im really interested in McGill but i've heardd a couple negative things such as how impossible the grading system is, how difficult the work is, and how much the profs don't really like americans? Is any of this true?? is McGill an enjoyable school lol??

no thoughtssss???

which faculty? Management differs from engineering, for instance.

is management ridiculously graded?!?!?!?!!?

managementtt..thats the one im going for. do you know anything about it???

I've taken classes in both engineering and management, so I can offer a perspective for both. Engineering classes tend to have lower averages, and often exams will be curved UP so that the grade distribution conforms to a standard bell curve. I've taken finals where the average was a 30, and the curve brought it up to a 65. Other exams in engineering are challenging, but fair, and no curve is needed.

Management has a policy where the average of the class MUST FALL between a range (I think it's 65-75, perhaps a management student can correct me). Thus, it is possible to have your final mark lowered to meet this criteria. I think that happened to me on my marketing final, but I was too lazy to inquire.

To be more specific,

A (85-100%) Satisfactory Pass
A- (80-84%)
B+ (75-79%)
B (70-74%)
B- (65-69%)
C+ (60-64%)
C (55-59%)
D* (50-54%) Conditional Pass
F (0-49%)

In Engineering, a grade of C or higher is require to take a requisite course.

omg thatss wierdd u have to fall in a range even if u earned higher marks. hmmmmm...

is management a lot of workk?

not nearly as much as engineering. It's different work, more team-oriented and critical thinking with respect to a realistic situation (case studies). However, courses in finance and accounting are obviously more math-driven. Many management students have it a bit easier with Fridays off.

Um...did I just hear fridays off? This is getting to be quite irresistible :) hahaha

Yes, McGill is quite difficult. It goes to the point where you could bring your lecture slides and textbooks to the exam, and still do badly (not that I have tried that).

Let's just put it this way: you need to work very hard, and on top of that, you need to be quite brilliant. But an A is not impossible, and there is a good number of people with 3.0+ GPAs (which is the minimum requirement nowadays for anything in this world). But everyone knows that McGill is difficult, especially grad schools, and they will take that into account during admissions.

However, there are some classes that are quite easy - like IB AP exam easy.

But this is coming from a Science student (U1) who has not seen the final year yet, so when the time comes, you'll be the first to know.

And yes,for management freshmen, you could strcuture your schedule so that you can have Fridays off. But many Engineering students have Tuesday off as well. It is just how McGill schedules their classes, and how you can fit everything in. Science classes are usually in the morning. Arts usually later in the day (occasionally in the morning). If you have a Minerva account, you can check the times.
P.S. I have 8.30 classes every day of the week (Science=hardcore), but I usually end by mid-day.

note: it is NOT worth jam packing your classes into monday, wednesday, and friday for the sake of tuesdays and thursdays off.
