I've heard that UC's don't accept a D in any class? Help?!

My sophomore year I got a D in AP Chemistry first semester, then I dropped it and retook regular chemistry during the summer and got an A+. Will I still be able to apply to UC's?

I'm currently a junior.

I wouldnt be surprised if they dont take any D’s. Its gotten crazy.

You’d still be eligible as long as by the end of high school you get a C or higher in at least one year (10 units) of physical science. I think nowadays you also need to have 11 of the required courses complete by junior year; you should check on that because I don’t remember entirely. Now whether they would accept you is another story; the D puts a hamper on your GPA still. If you retake the course (and the exact same course, not a lower level), then you’ll still have to submit the grade but it wouldn’t factor into your GPA.

Courses with D grades do not count toward the a-g course requirements for UC or CSU. You can still be eligible if you completed sufficient semesters of other science courses and other a-g courses with C or higher grades, although the D grade can be harmful to your GPA.

I’m pretty sure if you retake the course (or its regular equivalent) you can still get into a UC. My friend got a D- first semester of AP Calc AB and retook the class this year (senior year). He got into UC Riverside and was waitlisted at UCSB. He appealed and will be attending UCSB come fall.
