about University of Southern Cali, like the people aren't friendly and they're snobby California orange-tanned airheads, and that the education isn't so good and the tons of money you pay for this school isn't worth it. Is this true? How would you say the life at USC is? And how are the people?

(laugh at loud)

I'll let the others chime in.

I have visited the USC campus many times (i will be attending this fall) and I never feel that I am surrounded by these types of people. Everyone I have encountered was helpful, open, and knowledgeable. Of course you have a few stereotypical southern californians(what you described)--and you're bound to run into these types of people all over california anyways. Actually, my decision to go to USC was really solidified by the welcoming spirit I felt from the students and faculty. If you have a chance to visit USC and talk to some students for yourself, I think you will see that what you heard is far from the truth.

I think you'll find the same proportion of snobby people all over the U.S., not just in California. ;) Haven't we all HEARD stuff about rude New York people?

Thanks guys.

But at the end, did you think your decision about going to USC was nonregrettable and worth it?

And the numerous links to other threads therein.

I don't regret my decision to attend USC at all. I can't quite answer the question "was it worth it" just yet, but I feel pretty confident that when I graduate I will feel like it was worth it.

i've experienced it. when you bump into someone on the crowded NY sidewalks (it's inevitable), just TRY and get an "excuse me." ain't happening.

i've spend a couple full days on campus (and an overnight), and i had a HARD time finding a person who thought i wasn't worth their time to talk to or be nice to. someone else i talked to was also under the impression that USC was full of snobs. when i told him i didnt meet any in the several days i'd spent there in several social occasions, he said "well, it just takes time to meet them." to which i said...then how is it different from any other place in the world? ;)

education "isn't so good"...SC has some top ranked programs in engineering, journalism/communication, film (of course), music, and business (probably forgetting something).

I don't regret coming to USC considering that I'm enrolled in one of the top 10 business programs in the country. I know that fact alone is a bit broad, but basically what I'm saying is that I know I'm getting a good education and I know that my education will pay off in the future.

For those that are attending USC this Fall or thinking about going there should read some of the comments at www.studentsreview.com

Here we go AGAIN. Studentsreview.com is incredibly biased, and there's no way to know whether the reviews were actually posted by USC students. Students from other schools could very well be spamming the USC board.

Take a look at this thread: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=169765

I was admitted to schools with a way better reputation than SC, but came here because of a scholie. I have never once regretted it. I love every day that I'm there...and I cant wait for summer to end so I can go back.

The students are awesome, the profs are approachable, and the education is very good (especially if you push yourself)...

NOTICE: For incoming freshman or high schoolers...dont read Students Review. It is the single most worthless site on the web... just a forum for a few upset kids to rant about their school.

I'm not even paying full housing to attend USC, so I bet it'll be worth it.

I can tell you that the 2 times I visited the school with my child, I was greeted by the friendliest and most helpful students! We looked lost twice, and each time, a student asked US if we needed help and ESCORTED us to where we needed to go. I had doors held open for us, and students were more than happy to stop and talk to me when I questioned them about why they chose USC. A far cry from our experience at that other UC school nearby.

I'll admit that I had problems with some of the people I knew in the Greek system... It bothered me that girls looked down on me because I had more important things to do than make my hair look perfect. My freshman roomate situation flopped because of this. But once I was out of that dorm, I didn't really encounter those problems anymore. Yes, that aspect of people are present. You may be forced to deal with them depending on your housing assignment. But if you are not rooming with one of them, you don't have to spend your time with them, so if you choose to let their mere existance bother you, that says more about you than about them.

"D" had the option to go to UCLA, CAL or USC. In the end she chose USC. A large deciding factor were the friendly people and family atomosphere. Also, she has run into a lot of people who have graduated from all 3 colleges. EVERY ONE of the people that graduated from USC wished their time there hadn't ended. That's a pretty good indication to me she's choosing a college where she feels it will be a great experience.
