ive heard

one of my friends that was accepted to brown last year told me that if they accept anyone from a school they will only accept a maximum of one person. does anyone know if this is true?

It's not true. Your friend heard this rumor on the OC.

apparently that is not true... brown accepted 15 ppl from my sch last yr...

yeah, 5 of my 05ers are with me at Brown.

iwannabebrown, is your school like a "normal" school or a really good private or a magnet?

Not at all true. My friend has 9 people from his graduating class at Brown (this is a very exceptional LA prep school). It depends on the school and the quality of the applicants.

hmm, yeah i guess he was wrong. my school is a top ranked (according to newsweek) magnet school

THE OC's dead wrong,

maybe theyll take 1 top student from a crap public school? but an academic powerhouse? i think not.

How about from a... mostly competitive public school? I know for a fact that 2 others are applying not counting myself, there might be more... I'm not sure how many we send to Brown every year but Brown's one of the few top schools that sends representatives to our college fairs and stuff. Maybe I'll ask my counselor... a couple months ago, when talking about the counselor rec, she said that she was familiar with it because she'd seen it so many times (Brown's).

Talk to your counselor about trends from your school, but also keep in mind that it may not always be the same from year to year. Brown might reject every applicant from your school for 5 years and then admit 3 in the same year. You really never know.

Competitive public schools are really good. Last year we sent 7 to harvard and this year 6 got in early at yale. IDK the brown numbers but I bet they are high.

sorry this is kinda off topic..how much of an edge does being an intel-semi finalist give you?

On the OC it didn't say it would only take 1 person from every school, it just said that on average Brown only accepts one student from Harbor (the high school they attend).

My school is a very competitive high school in NY, and about 30+ kids applied to the ivies, only 6 got in. I was the only one accepted to Brown form my school, and everyone else who applied HYP got deferred/rejected... Ivies don't like us too much....

yeah, my school is a super elite private school, the 6 of us came from a graduating class of 48.

I can't believe so many people follow the OC like it was some sort of divine truth. So many people freaking out over a rumor on a fictional tv show? That is the most funny

dknicks, i agree. my post was trying to discredit the rumor even though it might have showed that i might be a little obsessed with the oc (i'm not, i just watch it most weeks ans have a good memory, lol). their high school is fictional so you can't really compare it to a real one.

living the life like they show it on OC AND getting into top notch ivys. Yea, thats impossible.

I don't watch the show, but I bet that they just bribe their teachers for good grades/recs with tons of cash. No doubt about it.

Watch out, or Hollywood might get intellectual one us. Heaven forbid.
