I've heard

I've heard there's nothing to do in Waterville. Is this an exaggeration? What -is- there, like a movie theater or a bookstore or anything?

(no, this is not a determining factor, I just want to know...:))

depends on who you ask. for me personally, waterville was a real drag. that's why i transferred out. to give you some perspective, i transferred to william and mary, and by comparison, colonial williamsburg seems like a rocking metropolis.
there are a couple of movie theaters, but their is a definite schism between the townies and the students. if you want better entertainment, bring a car, check out augusta (15 minutes away) for a barnes and noble and stuff, freeport for some sweet outlets (bowdoin is much closer to freeport...they definitely got the better location) and portland for the only "city" (if you want to call it that) in maine. the outdoor scene is sweet since it's maine after all, but i really did not like waterville/the isolated nature of colby. it's a small school, so if you don't find your niche, your effed...
hope that helps.

My uncle teaches at Colby and I've been to visit them a few times..and although I hate to break it to ya, it's true that there really is nothing to do in Waterville.

that's not entirely true. I mean, it's no Burlington, but there's a neat, eclectic movie theater (with 1$ admissions nights) that shows foreign films, film festival faviorites, and some mainstream movies, a mainstream movie theater, a mal wart, several good churches, a wicked awesome thrift store, an opera house, and some other neat places.

Some good, although not profound, lol, advice was given to me the other day (even though I'm not applying to college, lol): don't choose a school for it's city-- that's just a perk that some college experiences have.
