I've never been that big on praying but...

Oh Curmudgeon, words can't express how sad I am to hear the news about your baby sis'. In fact, reading about your sister, and Mstee's Dad made me tear up. Cancer is such a b*tch! I lost my favorite Uncle to Multiple Myloma last year, so I can certainly empathize with the feeling of helplessness Cancer imparts to the loved ones of those afflicted by it. Please know, Cudmudgeon and Mstee, that your loved ones are in my most fervent prayers.

Searchingavalon, I am so happy to hear that you are a SURVIVOR (picture me doing the happy dance!). I'm sure your courage and empathy have helped many a breast cancer victim find the strength to fight on. You are in my prayers too. May you continue to live in strength and health.

Curmudgeon: One of the great books is "Speak the Language of Healing: Living with Breast Cancer without Going to War," by Kuner, Osborn, Qukgley and Stroup. I've also seen it as a book on tape. It's about about how to turn a devastating health crisis into an opportunity for spiritual growth but it's not mushy, as we used to say.

I have two copies of Ronnie Kaye's Spinning Straw into Gold," so if you want me to mail you one, we can work out the logistics. A lot of it is about things that happen early in the process but parts of it will be relevant and it has some guided meditations in a supplement at the end..

www.healthjourneys.com has a guided meditation on tape to help with chemotherapy. I used their radiation tape and don't know what I would have done without it.

I'm finally getting to a survivor book, which is what you actually asked about... "The Red Devil : To hell with cancer--and back" by Katherine Russell Rich is a very powerful book by a breast cancer survivor. If you go to its amazon website http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0609603213/qid=1100995254/sr=2-1/ref=pd_ka_b_2_1/103-2474209-0725413 some other survivor books are listed that I haven't read.

If her being a nurse gives her greater confidence in the people treating her, and a lack of nervousness about advocating for herself if & when necessary, then yes, it's a very good thing.

Celebrian:

Things must be so tough for you! Your sister and grandma are in my thoughts.

Celebrian, I'll add your sister and Grandma to my prayer list as well. I truly believe that prayer with believing heart can work miracles. Hang in there!

Well, time for bed and some more prayers for all of you and your dear ones--Curmudgeon's little sister, Celebrian's little sister and grandma, Joev's fiancee.

I talked to my dad tonight, and he seems to be feeling the same, physically--a lot of back pain, can't walk still--but mentally, I think he is feeling much more hopeful--his doctors told him that they do not believe that the cancer had spread. So that is good news. I'll be driving down to see him on Mon.
