Would it be better to put something like babysitting or just leave it blank?

yes. leave it blank
babysitting counts as a work experience.

Colleges want honest, specific answers. If you babysat a few times, list “Occasional babysitting”, if you sat every afternoon for a family, list the total hours/months/years.

Don’t fret if you had few hours, colleges don’t expect everyone to have had extensive work experience.

I know, I have had no paid work experience and I feel kind of apprehensive in leaving that portion blank…I’m sure it won’t affect chances that much though.

Would you say having a temporary job could count. (Not fired or quit, it was for the state fair, paid quite well)

Regular babysitting counts.

Anything you consider is working should be a work - paid and unpaid. For example, helped in a local flee market. That’s fine.

Colleges, more or less, don’t really care about these little things. They use them to get to know who you are. Some people have extensive work experience because of their family income issue. If the applicant does really well in school, such extensive experience is helpful.
