I've some questions about GE

Hi,

Now I’m reading information about GE, and it’s pretty much confusing as I’m an international student first to America. Here are some of the questions I have:

What is Writing 2 courses and lower division seminar? On GE Catalogue, it says

‘GE approved Writing 2 course may fulfill an appropriate foundational area. One of the 10 courses must be either a GE-approved lower division seminar or a second GE-approved Writing 2 course in the appropriate foundational area’

I’ve read and read it again, thought about it all the day, and asked it about my English teacher, but I’ve been not able to find out what it means. Is there Writing 1 course? Please, enlighten me. :(

If I take GE Cluster, I don’t have to choose GE by myself? Is GE Cluster hard for international students?

Thank you in advance. I’m sorry to ask like this, but I’m having really difficult time understanding how credit system works. Any input will be greatly appreciated.

On the GE Requirements catalogue, all courses with an (S) behind it is a seminar course, those with a (W) behind is writing II course.

The writing I courses are only required if you haven’t fulfilled any of the following:

 1. Score of 4 or 5 on the College Board Advanced Placement Tests in English
 2. Score of 720 or better on the SAT II Subject Test in Writing and superior performance on the English Composition 3 Proficiency Examination
 3. IGETC (transfer students who have completed IGETC will have satisfied the Writing II requirement)

Not much idea about the GE Cluster though, suggest you go to summer orientation like I plan to do.
