The first time I took a subject test was early on in highschool and it was just Math II which I scored well on.

Then last summer I took it again, this time 3. However, due to an illness, I did not perform very well and I'm certain my scores can improve tremendously if I take it once more.

Will it look bad if I will have attempted these tests three times? I know on the Columbia website it says that they don't recommend it more than twice, but I legimately feel that one more chance may better show my capabilities. Should I write this on my app somewhere or would it just seem lame and like im making excuses...?

How well did you do the first time? If you think you can get 750+ then I might advise you to take again, but only if you have a lot of other SATIIs. as well. If you’ve taken 4 SATIIs, and 3 have been in the same subject, that might be kind of suspicious. But of course admissions depends on a lot more than just SATIIs so I wouldn’t worry too much.

Go ahead and take it again. It sounds as though you really want to. If Columbia doesn’t like it, so what? There are a lot of other schools out there that will be impressed by your higher score and don’t care how many times you sit fot the exam.
