Ivies + A Few Others

I am applying to Brown ED! (fingers crossed). If the worst happens though, I would like to know what my chances are at a few other schools:
Brown
Washington University in St.Louis
U Penn
Cornell
Dartmouth
Johns Hopkins
UC LA
UC Berkeley
University of San Fran

Here's my info:
ACT Score: 33(1 point from a 34!)
GPA: 4.3
Rank: 4/532

Senior Year Classes: French 4, AP Government, Aerobics (had to take PE!), Peer Tutoring, Calculus Honors, English 4AP

Extracurriculars: Volunteering at the local hospital every week for the past 2 years, Boy Scout/Eagle Scout, Order of the Arrow Vigil Member/Lodge Chief, VP French Club, California Scholastic Federation Vice President, a few other small ones

Job/Work Experience: I private tutored kids most of last year. Now I am employed at a law office 8hs/wk.

Summer Activities: Summer@Brown- Microbiology (2008)
IEMA Spanish Emersion Program in Spain (2008)
Lead America: Medicine (2007)
Michigan Debate Institute (2006)

I have also taken a lot of classes at our local college: Statistics, Intro to Bio, Health Education, Anatomy and Physio, Art History

Essays: I wrote one about Boy Scouts and how it has taught me leadership and service etc. The other was on my trip to Spain this past summer. I didnt know any Spanish, so I had to adapt and learn how to get around.

Teacher Rec's: Should be good as far as I know

State: California
School Type: Public
Ethnicity: Caucasian
Gender: Male

Any opinions would be great!

How good is your high school?

Essays are quite cliched. Otherwise, there are no reasons preventing you from getting in.

My high school isnt the best, I wont lie. Every year, I have had to take a slightly less than optimal schedule because they dont know how to schedule classes right.

However, I tried to make up for that by taking a bunch of classes at our local college.

I also just asked my two professors from my Brown Summer program to write rec. letters. That should help hopefully?

And yeah, I know my essays are cliched pretty bad. Its probably the weakest spot of my application. Hopefully they can look past that.

Bump...any other opinions?

essay topic doesnt necessarily lend itself to cliched theme. from what i've heard brown is pretty unpredictable in terms of what it likes about an applicant although in general its pretty liberal. but yea i dont see anything stopping u from getting in

bumpity bump bump

thanks sguoster. any other opinions?

i feel like not taking SAT2s is going to hurt your chances... simply because your ACT isn't extra super high.

Well, I did take SAT II's, but they werent very impressive at all:

Bio-M: 690
Bio-E: 660 (can you use both bio's? I would guess not)
Lit: 650
Math II: 640

I didnt send them to Brown because I figured they couldnt do any good. But I will send them to the others that require them.

bump..any other opinions? I would love to know!

ill chance back if you'd like!

also, add columbia to that list please :)

I believe you are find, you do have a good enough ACT score for any of them, but columbia, brown, and Upenn are the ones i see as a reach.
otherwise you are fine.

thanks!

other opinions?
