Ivies and other Tops

Applying: Brown, Northwestern, Vanderbilt, UPENN (NOT Wharton), and Cornell
Colleges of arts and science to all, majoring in Spanish and/or Biology (I don't truly know yet)

Co-Valedictorian at an ultra-comptitive high school
SAT: Math - 800, Verbal - 690, Writing - 670, SS - 1490/2160
My first SAT was only like a 2050
GPA: UW - 4.0, W - 4.67
ACT: 33 (taking one more and Brown + UPENN SS, so this could be a 34/35)
No SAT IIs yet, taking them tomorrow. Hoping for 800 Math 2 and 700-750ish for Spanish. Using Baron's to prepare.
Classes: 10 APs in total, not sending scores of the completed ones
The rest are all honors or required non-honors (theology, fine arts)
Never gotten a B.

ECs: An anti-bullying group that travels to smaller parochial schools to spread awareness. (Actually just featured in the newspaper). This is my MAIN EC.
Lacrosse (Freshman, JV, one year of varsity)
Football (freshman, then one year of varsity until i quit)
Spanish Club
Math League top scorer
Psychology Club
International Food Club (Representative)
Model UN

Leadership:
Student council (only 4 reps elected from each class a year)
NHS
Peer Mentor (hyper, and I mean HYPER-competitive, nationally-recognized program at my school in which I am charge of a group of freshman...only 12 men and 20 women are taken a year)
Retreat Leader
Math and Spanish Tutor

Other awards/honors:
Leadership retreat representative
Invite-only math competition participant (perform atrociously for your own amusement)
Spanish Student of the year* (FLUENT in Spanish...should help)
Peer Mentor (again)

Service: Over 100 hours on various activities (too many to post). One of which I was honored best teen contributor. I also organized a canned-food drive that raised about 55,000 cans!

Work Experience: Management Intern summer of Junior year at a small business.
...and then I worked at Target (lol @ how terrible that job was)

Recs: AMAZING. I got the coveted letter from our AP Lit teacher who writes incredible letters each year! My other one was equally as respected in the school. I haven't read them (damn waivers), but I'm sure they're both magnificent.

Hook: none

Common App Essay: Great, wrote one about my incredible, inspiring, and cherished grandmother that recently passed away last week (from cancer) and who completely changed my life. She single-handedly shaped my values of friendship, family, and what it means to live. Also, I wrote on her impact on my respect for women (please be a female officer!)

Weaknesses: I'm white (sad) and I come from a higher income bracket. Also, weak writing score on SAT I.

Hey truzzi182 how’s it going.
Your recs are similar to mine in terms of SAT scores and the schools you are applying to! I feel like your weaknesses are your EC activities. A little more consistency might have helped. Also, your scores on SAT II might also become a crucial factor in what schools you will get into.
Here are my opinions:
Brown-High Reach
Northwestern-High Reach
Vanderbilt-Reach/Match
Penn-High Reach
Cornell-High Reach unless you did ED

chance me!

^ You actually think NU is a high reach too? I’m VERY confident about NU, and I don’t think vandy is a reach at all. I have 75th percentile scores (ACT) there.

I have lots of ECs but only posted the ones with significant time put into them.

I took SAT IIs today and think I got 750+ on both.

What kind of AP scores did you get? If your school is “ultra competitive” I would expect that you have higher SAT scores…
