Ivies and UC's

Hey!

First post! :) So I was wondering if you could tell me if the colleges i'm applying to are feasible? I checked the rankings for them and it's like i just took the first 15 or so lolol worries me! I think academically, I should be okay, but I'm not too sure about my EC's.

--
Privates: Brown (PLME), Caltech (BS/MD; EA), Columbia, Cornell, Dartmouth, Duke, Harvard, Johns Hopkins, MIT (EA), Northwestern (HPME), Princeton (<3), Stanford, UChicago, UPenn, USC (BS/MD; legacy), WashU St. Louis (maybe BS/MD), Yale

UC's: Cal, UCLA, UCSD (BS/MD)

EA: Caltech, MIT

okay so here we go! :)

--
Asian, Male, Competitive Public School (California!)

GPA: 3.98 UW, maybe like 4.5-4.6 W

Class rank: around top 1%

SAT I: 2400 (2nd try)

SAT II's:
Math IIc: 800
Chemistry: 790
Biology E: 800
Physics: 800

AP's: I have 11 as of junior year, will have 17 at the end of the year.
5: Chemistry, Psychology, European History, Physics B, Physics C: Mech, Physics C: E&M, Biology, US History, Calculus BC (AB subscore too :) ), English Language
4: Music Theory

I think it's worthwhile to note that my school doesn't offer all of these AP's and for quite a few I self-studied outside of school.

Courseload:
Pretty tough I guess. I think it's worthwhile to mention that I self-studied BC while taking AB in junior year, so this year I'm taking IB Math HL to brush up on the BC stuff while taking multivariable/differential at a college (only person at my school to do so)

EC's:
Co-founded animal club: we set up animal adoption events at local parks and volunteer at the local animal shelter, focusing on saving abandoned pets in danger of euthanization
Co-founded senior citizen club: we go to a local senior center and care for, talk to, entertain the seniors. We work closely with the local senior citizen home to improve the quality of life of the seniors
Science Olympiad: placed many times at regionals and state
Model United Nations: multiple best delegate (gavel)/outstanding/commendations
(For each of these above I hold leadership positions.)
Conducted research at a local laboratory
Art: proficient at a wide variety of mediums
Piano: CM level 10, branch honors, convention recognition, advanced exemption for theory, 1st chair in school string orchestra
Saxophone: royal level 5 with merit (prob not gonna mention this)

In total, volunteer hours: around 400-500
Research hours: around 640

Awards:
National Merit semifinalist--hopefully finalist
Siemens semifinalist (well this is tentative...)
Junior Honor Guard
Oustanding Foreign Language Student

National AP Scholar

So you see, the approach I took in high school was to only pick a few activities, but pursue them very deeply. I'm not sure if these are okay, because they're not super "prestigious" activities you know, but I do feel very passionately about them and can explain/write about them if asked to (like in an interview or the application).

Looking forward to your thoughts! :) Thank you!

You have a really strong shot at all of these schools. With the top schools its often hard to predict the exact results since admissions is a little random at the top level. But overall you are going to get into at least a few of these.

Dang dude… you got everything goin for ya! You are definitely one of the most competitive kids in the US. Very good chance at almost every school you’re looking at! Best of luck!

Chance me back! (i’m not as near as smart as you are… LOL)

without a doubt u should get into 2+ of HYPSM/Caltech. and thats worst case. you’ll probably get into 3-5 of them. I’m guessing those are your top choices so hope that helps
