ivies take best sections

do the ivies especially yale and upenn take the best sections on SATs and then total up the score? or do they take the best sitting like uc berkeley does?

bump bump bump

please respond!! i need to know!

Yes, I need to know also...

princeton does

Ivies take highest section scores from multiple tests to determine total SAT. However, particularly Harvard and Yale, have stated that they consider taking the test more than twice unwise or, as Harvard puts it, that doing so "offers diminishing returns." They don't explain those kinds of statements such as whether that means they may consider it against you in admission if you take it three or more times.

Would you happen to know if Johns Hopkins has offers any "diminishing returns" when taking the SAT I a third time? I was looking through its website, and they do not necessarily state it, but are they known to frown upon it? Also, do they frown upon taking SAT II's a second time or taking a number (in different subjects) but only submitting three?

Hopkins considers highest section scores from multiple SAT tests and highest II tests and has not stated anything to suggest that taking any multiple times might be held against you. Nevertheless be aware that if you are a 2006 applicant; (1) Hopkins will still take the old SAT but "prefers" the new one and it has indicated it may not mix and match highest subscores between the old and new SAT; (2) if you submit the old SAT you will be required to submit three SAT II's; if, instead, you submit the new SAT, then three SAT II's will not be required but will be "recommended." Beyond 2006, it will require either new SAT, or ACT with writing, and "recommend" three SAT II's if you are relying on the SAT. In other words, it will become possible to be admitted to Hopkins with only the SAT and without any II's.

Thanks for the informative reply. It has cleared up much of what was concerning me.

Hmm..is Brown included in the combining from different sittings, along with Yale and Harvard? Just in case

Won't the schools know your other SAT scores anyhow though (by the SAT transcript)? So even if you got like a 740 on math one time, but a 220 another time, they would be worrisome about letting you in?
