Ivies talking to each other

ok, i've been hearing a lot of different things. but here's my question. i heard that ivies share ur name at least in the application process. .. do they also share ur application with one another? specifically, i heard that if u apply to a majority of the ivies, u have a greater chance of being rejected bc they know u don't have a num. 1 school or they will admit you to the one ivy school that they think will fit you.

if this is true, then i will def. have to apply to only 3 or 4. . .and i really wanted to do harvard, princeton, and yale. . .and now i don't know. i also wanted to apply to cornell and dartmouth, bc i think i have a better chance getting into those schools. . .i'm so confused now bc this is rolling the dice right now. so i guess my final question is, do ivies share information, and will ur chances be lessened by applying to many ivies. or by applying to Harvard princeton and yale?

thanks!

This topic has been beaten to death. Ivies don't talk to each other, applying to one wils not decrease your chances in another. That's absurd and parnoic donchathink?

paranoic? oooh, I like that one. 6th greatest typo ever...

And I agree, it's a little pointless to worry about it. It's not a problem. Apply to where you want to go. And be happy about it, dangit!

lol i knew something was wrong with "paranoic." sad that it came out of a (future) Princetonian... me. dang, i have shamed you all.

?!?!??! Ivies don't talk to each other for the same reason roses don't talk to each other!!!

WHAT?! madly confused

You aren't the only one

lol, guys (s)he was alluding to the ivy that grows on the side of buildings

They only share ED admit lists.

ohhhhhh, mm'k I get it now. 'cause for about 2400 seconds I was completely lost. THanks, spanks. Leave it to randomgr to mess with my mind. Good times.

I suggest you apply to 3 ivies, 4 tops. They all differ so greatly that, unless you're in it for the prestige (which becomes less important when you're actually an enrolled student involved in daily life there), it's virtually impossible to love all 7 ivies equally. You should choose a few ivies, based on courses offered, atmosphere, student life, facilities, professors... and you should definitely apply to some safety schools too.

I thought he was alluding to thorns
?

Hmm...that could be right, maybe I'm wrong :)

or maybe randomgr could be kind enough to just explain before we debate this thing to death :p

he's probably off being a rock star with his new guitar or something. tee hee hee

oh, christmas on cc, excellent.

did you get a lot of p-ton things, phil?

I got zilch! Ahhh! Actually, I think it had something to do with my drunken statement (I mean, I had to have been drunk to have made it) in November that "no one needs to get me anything if I get into Princeton. That'll be enough." Ha! Yeah, that was rich. Anyways, I'm ordering stuff online next week, so I suppose I'll have some Happy New Year presents (that'll be a first!). Suh-weet!

And you, tamera?

"no one needs to get me anything if I get into Princeton. That'll be enough."
I only said that on CC...I wasn't ABOUT to let my parents hear the words. =)

A friend of my mom is on the Dartmouth AdCom(I'm not applying there) and he said that they do in fact share applications with other ivy league schools. He said that applying to more than 3 schools greatly decreases your chances of getting in.

Well if they do share files, why was the LeMenager admissions case (where the Princeton adcom hacked into Yale's applicant database system) such a big deal?

If an applicant does not give the school explicit permission to share their information publicly, then where is the ethicality in the Ivies sharing files? Please do ask your mom's friend that one. I'm sure someone could legally sue if applying to more than three Ivies does in fact "greatly decrease your chances."
