someone once told me pakistanis are URMs because they constitute a very small percentage of the large asian group in college. Indians/Chinese/Koreans primarily represent the asian group in the ivies.

middle eastern is ORM? really?

I got into Cornell University with less than a 3.7 and with only two AP grades, a 2 in American History and a 5 in Spanish-Language. Go figure. There were a lot of things backing me up though. LOL

If you think that's anything special at those schools, you're in for a rude awakening.

Yes, middle-easterns are ORMs too....

The list of ORMs is no doubt stereotypically in that it labels groups as "inherently intelligent"...

i'm saying that's what got me in. it wasn't my stellar GPA, was it?

What if you are both? What if one parent is a URM and the other is an ORM? lol

The O and the U cancel each other out and you become a majority lol.!!

then youd be considered URM i think.

I think by "Middle Eastern" he means Jewish and not Arab. Arabs aren't overrepresented at most colleges.

@HeavenWood, yeah, well I would still be both, because thats what I meant too. What if you are Jewish AND a URM? :P

And then, what if you live with your URM parent, but not your ORM parent?

EDIT: Btw, I dont think he would say 'middle eastern' and only mean Jews... Jewish people are probably only 2% of the entire Middle Eastern population.

I think the Jewish factor automatically overrides the URM factor unfortunately...

Jews, like Asians, are stereotypically successful, and for me...well...since I look a lot like JFK, even though I'm full blood Jew, my European looks are going to destroy even THAT, lol...

I love Jews, there so cool.

A white guy at my school just got into Brown with a 3.6. He was in the top 4% though (school grades harshly).
