Which of the Ivies do you guys think has the best campus/atmosphere? I visited Cornell last week and it was kinda spread out, but the people seemed nice. UPenn has a nice modern campus. I spent last summer as Harvard SSP and loved it, the campus was nice and compact, close to boston and Cambridge is nice. So what do you guys think?

I've only seen Penn and Harvard, and although I think the Penn campus itself is prettier, I'd much rather LIVE at Harvard, because I get scared around the Penn campus and I don't like the added security to the dorms and everything. I've heard Columbia is well laid out.

Personally, I like the Cornell campus because of its natural beauty. The half-hour walk from the freshman dorms to the engineering quad is good for you, especially when you are fighting a headwind in the winter. There are a couple of buildings I would tear down (perhaps they were senior thesis projects for architecture students) and plant trees instead, but the original quad has nice architecture. The view of Cayuga Lake and the valley is nice. The city of Ithaca complements the campus well. If you like boating, skiing, hiking, and wine...its a good place to be. The students and faculty seem generally friendly and unpretentious. I wouldn't say its a warm, fuzzy place. Its a little intense.

You are going to get 8 different opinions about this.

30 minute walk?!! *:crosses Cornell off of college list with red pen:/I)

No, sounds like Princeton, the residential campuses are so spread ou that some students say they'd sacrifice the beautiful housing just to be closer.

Princeton isn't spread out! From one edge of campus to another is at most 15 minutes. It's definitely a walking campus, and quite beautiful. It's also safe, but has access to new york city as well as philadelphia.

yea princeton is definately in my mind the nicest, but i wont be getting in there unless my intel project does really well. Right now im looking at places like Cornell, UPenn and maybe Columbia

P.S. There is an efficient shuttle bus system on the Cornell campus -aka wimpmobile (jk).

Princeton and Brown have gorgeous campuses...

Are just speaking of the main campus or the residential campuses as well? Because it was not a 15 minute walk from the Graduate College to the Engineering Quad or the athletic facilities when my oldest sister toured.

Well I assumed we were talking about the Undergrad campus. The graduate college at Princeton is like way off to the side, because nobody cares about grad students. Sorry, but when you have an undergrad focus, you can't focus on grad students, obviously. No, but I mean for the undergrad students, even if you live in Forbes (the fartherest dorm) you can get to the E-quad in 15 minutes.

I would honestly say that Dartmouth is the most student friendly campus - everything is close by and almost 100% for undergrads. Its absolutely laid back - people go everywhere - it feels like home, and it has the awesome river to boot. Its a little New Englandish though. And Hanover is lame compared to Ithaca and Thayer Street (Brown). But the college environment totally compensates!
