Ivy applicants: how many subject tests are you taking?

:)

2-3, I would think? Why’d you take more tests than the application instructions ask for? (And no, taking more tests won’t help your application. In fact, it might do the opposite.)

I’ve taken 4, but some Ivies only look at the best two.

three is most common. Some colleges require specific subject tests, so be careful!

As Paul2752 says, visit the websites of the colleges you intend to apply to, and read their requirements. Some colleges (such as MIT) have very specific requirements, others (including Harvard) do not require them, but you would be better off submitting them if you do well (750+).

My advice- take two and do well, take a third if it’s in an unrelated field, but make sure you do well on it too!

FYI, at some colleges, a good score on a foreign language SAT subject test will allow you to test out of their foreign language requirement.

Took 3: Math and Physics (as required for engineering majors) and US History (I had been prepping hard for the AP exam, so it was a piece of cake).

what are the scores?

I’m taking 3 but I will only send the scores of the best 2.

I’ve taken 3: Math2, Physics, and Chem.

Taking US History and Literature.

0

2

3 which are world history, math lev 1&2

Taking Math1 &2 counts as one since it’s the same subject with two different levels.

Oh okay, thanks :)

Take another one. Math1 is useless, unless you are required to take a math test and didn’t take precalculus. In addition, the curve is wicked.

After rounds of several US universities with my daughter this summer, I learned two things about SAT II’s

 1. Don’t take Math 1 if you’re going to take Math 2 and 2) Don’t take the SAT II in your native language (ie don’t take SAT II Chinese if your native language is Chinese or if you’re going to school in China).

^great summary bouders, thank you. You’re absolutely correct.

Honestly I have hard time understanding foreign students who take SAT II “foreign”(NOT) languages test and think they can get away with it…isn’t it a common sense?

^You would think so, Paul, but I see a lot of chance me threads with SAT II’s in the posters native language.
