I was just wondering.. what does it mean?
An Ivy called my house... actually, a student representing an Ivy.
Does it even mean anything?

YES!
they don't just call anyone, you are probably a good candiate, however, it's not a 100% guarantee

what did you do to get the call?

nothing. i am surprised they called me.
believe me - my stats are NOT that great

let me guess: you're a URM and the ivy was harvard?

I don't know if it's a good sign...how do they possibly have your "stats"? Can you at least describe what the phone call was about...?

I remember that a student from Yale called me once. I remember first I received an email that asked me whether I wanted to talk to a student or not. It's nothing really.

let me guess: you're a URM and the ivy was harvard?

lol, I'm an URM w/ ok stats and some harvard minority recruitment person emailed me. Does that mean anything?

erm...I am not sure. They are interested in you but it is no sign of an admit. Lots of kids who recieved these letters and emails end up getting rejected.

Yale contacted me by email. A student representative emailed me for a reply.

I sent a reply, but no response yet. My stats are considered bad on CC.

I got one from the asian minority recruitment office, which sort of made me laugh, as if harvard needs more asians. anyways i was waitlisted.. so i dont think it means anything good or bad.

ahh okay.. nice to have my hopes up, but i was 99% sure it didn't mean anything.
and yeah, the school was harvard. i researched a bit and apparently they call a bunch of ppl

it means that they like your skin color. more tactfully, it means that they have identified you, probably through the information your provided for the PSAT, as a member of a "targeted" demographic group. as shown by the phone call, they are actively working to get more members of your demographic to apply and, eventually, to enroll. so your membership in that group will, yes, better your chances with harvard adcoms on the lookout for qualified URMs to add to the student body, but the fact that you received the call itself probably does not mean anything more.

I think I know an Asian girl who got called up by Harvard. She goes to UCLA now. Go figure.

for grad school they call people up very frequently (the pool gets smaller) ...
When they called you, what did they say? If they mentioned any specifics about your application or offered scholarships, i'd guess you impressed them. If it was just a sort of mini-advertisement, then they just want you to just fill in the ranks.
