I was wondering if anybody could tell me what kind of chance I have if I apply to the Ivies.

This Fall I'm going to be a freshmen at Uni of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in the Liberal Arts & Science college.
I'm Latino.

HS stats

Graduated with 3.0 gpa, took one AP class and two honor classes.
Only had one EC, played 2nd board for chess team

So those are my HS stats, but for the college stats what if I got a 3.7 gpa and above and had a lot more ECs what kind of chance would I have for the Ivies?? I'm thinking of applying after 1 year at UIUC. Thanks!

perhaps this is me venting but i find it to be absurd that all of these freshmen are speaking about transferring prior to having even matriculated at their university.

BTW, you can get into a great grad school from Urbana-Champaign. It's a good university. I know about it from over here in California so it's definitely well known.

Concentrate on your experience there, don't worry about the prestige factor. In the end what determines whether you're successful are you're own abilities, not the name of your school.

As awful as everyone says it is to think about transferring before you even start, at least it motivates you to do really well. After a year, you may be happy at your school with a 4.0, or you may be unhappy. Either way, you have a 4.0.

why do you want to transfer to an IVY b4 even starting at your school?
did you apply to all the IVYs out of high school and get rejected?

if you got rejected than oviously you would need to significantly improve your application to get in as a transfer student, as its even harder to transfer into an IVY than to get into an IVY from high school.

Why did you even choose your school if your so hell bend on going to an IVY?

Thanks for all the replies guys, especially brdpun's! It really does motivate me set high goals in school for a chance to get into a better school.

The reason I asked this was because I only applied to one school which was a really really bad idea. I don't know what I was thinking.. Now I'm always saying what if..I had applied to better schools, could I have got in? I know it may be harder to get in as a transfer but I can at least say I tried.

A lot of people (such as myself) were not so lucky with the college admissions process this year and thus we ended up at schools that we did not expect to attend. I too made mistakes in choosing colleges last year which is why I'm trying to get an early start now so I don't make that same mistake again.
