How did you become a finalist already? The results are mailed in February of next year...

LIAR. No person in Debate would have the time to do all of these other ECs...and what chewondave said.

My counselors told me that I was a semifinalist last year... all they really need are the average PSAT scores in your state, they're fairly consistent from year to year.

But the finalist competition is more complicated... maybe there's an SAT correlation that her counselors looked at?

Or maybe she just wrote the wrong thing.

If all that is true then it sounds like you have just about the best chance anyone could hope for. Unfortunately, even that doesn't assure admission to such competitive schools. Being from the south might boost your chances slightly though.

Unlikely; noone would say "i'm a finalist" without the intent of doing so. Finalists are determined my the NMSC, and they definitively reveal the results in February by mail. I find myself agreeing with s snack, the whole thing may be bogus.

sorry, the "I'm a finalist" thing got disputed on the yale site... i am only a semifinalist, but am waiting to see if i'm a finalist. As for my ecs, i am actually in debate and all the rest. I just don't have much time to sleep.

that is a LOT OF EC'S. your numbers are excellent. as long as you show where your true passion lies, you've got a chance anywhere.

how do you do all of that? seriously i want to know bc i am working my ass off and i just took my psats and got a 1860 (im a sophomore)
650 reading 590 math and 620 writing so i would like some advice
i have about the same number of ECs:
French Club Secretary Treasurer/Class rep.
Student Gov't class rep
founded F.L.Y.P. at my school-a french tutoring program for lower school students
in the beginning steps of founding a model UN (just need to wait until next year to apply as a new team)
on Girls for Change board
journalist for school newspaper
Mock Trial (prosecutor)
Latin Club member
Spanish Club member
PUB literary magazine member and website founder
Cooking Club member and future president (the position has already been awarded to me once the senior in charge leaves)

also i play 2 sports squash and lacrossed and i'm on JV for both, most likely varsity next year
i also do 2-3 hours of community service weekly
i'm in 4/5 honors classes offered at my school at my grade level:
US History 10 H
Latin 2 H
Chem 10 H
Math 10 H
i would be in french 3 H except due to scheduling conflicts i had to be in the CP class
and im in English 10 bc honors isn't offered sophomore year
i also take italian 1 outside of school and am currently searching for chinese lessons in my community

im not sure of my class rank but its definitely in the top 8 out of 54 and my gpa is about a 3.75 or 3.8

what more should i do to get myself into an ivy league school?

oh i also forgot i do makeup for all of the the drama club's plays as well as being a member of the sets crew and have been taking piano lessons since 2nd grade although i've been taking a break to 'experiment' on my own since last year..i'm hoping to start again next year
