Ivy Chances?

Hi, I am a senior drowning in the college application process. Any help would be appreciated!

ACT composite- 35

Class rank: top 2% in a class of 787
GPA: 4.0 unweighted, 4.66 weighted

Extracurriculars
Science Olympiad event leader
Speech and Debate event leader
National Honors Society
Student Government
Mock Trial

Art Teacher
Volunteer/Service work
*led an English course in China over the summer

Having visited many schools, my "dream school" has to be Yale. I am planning on applying Early Action but realize that Ivies are extreeeemely competitive. I am also applying to...
Yale
Cornell
Stanford
Duke
Northwestern (maybe)
UChicago
WashU
UPenn
Vanderbilt
as well as a few state schools.

What do you think my chances are?
Thanks in advance and best of luck to all the other seniors out there! :)

Great academics, but unless you didn’t say something, I would view your EC list as a laundry list of clubs you joined for the purpose of padding your college app and no real achievement/passion. With that said,

Yale, Stanford: high reach
Penn (high reach if Wharton), Chicago: mid-reach
Cornell, WUSTL, Duke, NW, Vandy: low reach/high match

Keep in mind that academics alone can’t get you into schools like the Ivies, Stanford, Chicago, etc. Thousands of kids nationwide and internationally are gunning for only a select few spots. You have to stand out in other ways as well.

Amazing academics (GPA and ACT/SAT), somewhat weak ECs for Ivies. You must realize that Ivies get soo many applicants with fantastic academics, they look for someone who stands out even more. I agree with giantman in the fact that Yale, Penn are reach (as they are for everyone) and you are a solid match for Duke and Vanderbilt and Chicago.
Good Luck Getting into Yale!

Chance me? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1562128-ivy-chances.html?highlight=ivy+chances</a></p>

YOu have solid academics, but you don;t have jaw dropping ECs, which ivy caliber schools often see. That is your biggest problem. However if you write incredible essays and have great letters of rec, you still have a decent chance.

Yale- reach
Cornell- low reach
Stanford- reach
Duke- low reach/reach (Duke loves the well rounded person with strong ECs)
Northwestern (maybe)- low reach
UChicago- low reach/reach
WashU- low reach
UPenn- low reach
Vanderbilt- low reach

I would add some safe schools to your list if I were you. Good luck! I’m sure you’ll get into some of them!

Chance me back? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1561842-chance-me-duke-ed-will-chance-back-within-24-hours.html#post16449634</a></p>

Thanks to everyone who’s responded! I also teach a weekly drawing class, does that count as an “Extracurricular”?

Yes! teaching is a great EC :)

That’s good to hear! I had written an essay about it instead not knowing if it counted as an ec. Thanks! :)

I have also added USC and UC Berkeley to my list, thoughts?

Pretty good match for SC. Berkeley would be a low match for you.

Probably both low reaches

Berkeley is not a low match - probably a high match

My fault, I meant high match texasian…

Bumping this post!
