Legacy at UVa: Father, Grandfather, Uncle

Also I am a junior

Based on your projected SAT scores, I can’t say you could make it to Harvard, but you have a strong transcript and focused EC’s. A good interview might tip you over as well. I think you would do well at UVa or UPenn, but why limit yourself to the East coast?

Hi TheBrownChild!
Thanks for the analysis, I am already practicing my interview skills, I think face to face discussion is one of my fortes. I don’t really know why I am limiting myself to the East Coast, I suppose it is partly because of the strong concentration of strong business schools and low travel costs. Any suggestions for schools with strong business/econ in the Midwest/West/South? Remember that cost is a huge factor as we are not the wealthiest people in the world.
Thanks

I think you are in. Also Uchicago, Berkeley, UCLA, and Stanford are all on par with your stats I would apply to them as well.

Please chance back http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1556170-chance-penn-state-transfer.html

Definitely in at UVA but at Penn Wharton is much more difficult to get into than the other schools with something like a 4% acceptance rate. Columbia and Harvard are reaches for anyone just because they’re Ivy and many qualified kids don’t get in. But take a look at the other schools people posted they’re very good and you have a high chance of acceptance.
Chance me?

Already chanced this but I will comment again, your stats are very impressive and their is a lot that stands out in your app. Make sure you get high SAT and ACTS and you will get into a few of those schools I am sure.

Bump! Thanks for all the help thus far.

I think you are almost guaranteed admission to UVA with that GPAand a double legacy(Don’t think uncles count?). As for the Ivy’s I really cant say because your stated SAT range is 400 points which is huge, but if you get around 2200 I say you have a solid chance with those EC’s.

@Jake11 I was hoping the double legacy would help although I wasn’t fully sure about the importance of legacy at UVa. Thanks for your analysis!

Your ECs are outstanding! I don’t think you can ‘project’ a SAT score :stuck_out_tongue: A lot of people do better than they expect to and many do worse. Get something above 2100 and your chances would be great.

You have great ECs and an outstanding transcript. UVA is certainly a match.
Try to score a 2000+ on SAT, and that can boost your chances.

Bump Bump Bump Bump Bump

Thanks for all the feedback

Why do you need to go to an Ivy? Just askin’…

Ivies are reaches for everyone. Spend some time thinking about where you might actually fit. If you have to apply to Ivies, pick 1 -2 that you actually like…

Cost (we aren’t wealthy and already have a kid in college)

Location (low travel costs, East Coast is full of opportunities and tons of interesting things to do like museums and historic sites.)

Incredible Academics

I have been thinking about it and I have to say that:
UPenn
Princeton
Columbia
are my top picks, based on their economics/business programs, cost and location.

You’re defiantly well-qualified. Have you had a record of contact with the schools? Emailing, attending fairs, visits, etc? And how far back does the contact range and approx how frequently? Are you trying to get recruited?

Oh…and how do you have time for all that??! Just wondering I want to do more but I feel overwhelmed I was hoping you know the secret :)

I have toured Columbia and Georgetown and intend to visit UPenn, Princeton and a few others this year. I had a conversation with a Duke admissions officer about a favorite band we both share I also introduced myself to a William and Mary admissions officer (although he is unlikely to remember me). Most if not all of the contact has been this year. My contact with these schools has not been as much as I’d like and I will try improving that more this year. Any suggestions as to what I can do? I am not trying to be recruited, I don’t think my sports are quite good enough although I don’t know much about Ivy League sports. The key to not feeling overwhelmed is to do things you enjoy doing, if you enjoy it you won’t feel crushed by pressure to succeed, you’ll just do what you like to do. Thanks for your assessment!
