Ivy College

Hi guys..

I am really interested in universities in the States..

By the way, I am a Grade 10 Canadian student and go to Catholic

Highschool in Canada(Ontario)...

Anyway,, My GPA so far is 4.0 (All As) and SAT score is like 2200..

(My school doesn't offer any AP courses..)

However, I haven't been much active in many clubs.. When the spring

comes, I am planning to join the Badminton and golf teams..

The point of my question is that ,according to this website, even those

people who did extremely well in highschool(like getting almost perfect on

the SAT,4.6 GPA, and getting 5 on most of their APs) find a university

really difficult .. Why?? For concrete example, my cousin who got

into Harvard with 1580 SAT, although I thought he would do well in Harvard

too, got like B+ average. What is the difference between those people

who get A+ average in Harvard and those who don't?? I am really concerned

about my post secondary education

because I am not sure which country has the university suitable for me

The Ivy colleges sound really tough

and academic program which they off seems too rigourous for me..

If you were me, would you do your undergraduate story in Canada and do

the graduate study in the States, or would you do both in the States whose

universities have much more international reputation?

You have a 4.0 and a 2200? Your English is worse than that of my immigrant housekeeper.

ah well.,. actually, I have been in Canada only for two years.. So I admit that my English is not as good as yours.. However, I am learning it and by the time of college, I am sure mine has improved..

I don't see how someone with such poor English skills can get an A in English or a 2200 SAT (You'd still need a 700 or 700+ in writing and/or reading, assuming an 800 in math).

His English skills seem fine to me. At least on par with yours!

You know what..you are quite arrogant in replying to my answer.. You should be more respectful.. I am really struggling to learn English and what you are doing is belittling my effort.. Let's say you are to study in Germany, do you think you can improve your skills in German like those of natives within a couple of years? Well... If you are unsure, please
don't be so insolent.

so are u from germany?

It doesn't matter where I am from

okay, i am just asking. don't get mad or anything...

agreed, it's not nice or pc, power to you scott

one word of advice to you scott. don't particpate in ECs just for resume. Do what u like and stop worrying about what it will look like on your college application. Chill out man, you are only grade 9.

Sorry, you won't get a 4.0 in college. A B+ average at Harvard is a very good GPA. It's a different world.

Thank you for all the pieces of advice..

You guys are all nice except for the one conceited guy ..

Sorry,Mr. EVH, if my reply to your question was impudent..lol I wasn't meant

to lol I thought it was a reply from the same guy who had offended me.. I

deeply apologize for that..

Anyway,, thank you so much for providing me with some helpful advice.

I have another question...

if you cannot get a good grade in an ivy-league college

why are many people still eager to get into Harvard and Yale??

In order to get a good grade which will take you into a good graduate school,

wouldn't you go to a non-ivy college instead of getting discouraged

by the competition in the ivy?? Thanks again for your answer ^//^

actually, you prolly will get As at harvard. they inflate like hell, it's really easy to carry a 4.0 at many of the top schools (not all of em).

That is not true that it is easy to carry a 4.0 at Harvard and other top schools. The impression I got is that it is very difficult to get an A but fairly easy to get a B. The average GPA at Harvard is a 3.4...and the average student at Harvard was ranked #2 in their class w/ a 1500 SAT....

It's really not that easy to have a perfect 4.0 at Harvard; only a few people (like 3-4, I think) have ever graduated from Harvard with a 4.0 cumulative average.

However, it is relatively easy to get a 3.6-3.8 at Harvard or Stanford.
