Brown, Harvard, Yale, Columbia, Dartmouth, Princeton, Upenn, Cornell
All except Columbia
Opening in order of arrival.
All except Columbia as well @Rckw98
Planning to open HYP last :3
Columbia (cause I already know that I got in) followed by Dartmouth, Cornell, Harvard, Yale, Princeton, UPenn (my top choice)
All except UPENN, this is my last hope before I have to go to some medicore school );
I applied to Penn only. I just really hope I get in! If not, ehhh. It was a crap shoot anyways
I applied to all but Cornell and Columbia! I’m opening them in ascending order of last year’s RD acceptance rate! Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Brown, Penn, and Dartmouth. I figure, statistically speaking, I have the best chance of getting into Brown, Penn, or Dartmouth. I, personally, would prefer to end with good news, although I am not expecting any lol my motto during this has been “expect nothing so i can’t be disappointed”
I think if I had one major piece of advice to give to a junior/underclassman it would be: It’s fine to really like the ivies or other selective schools, but please don’t get too emotionally invested in a school with a less than 10% acceptance rate. Less than 20%, really. Because ugh I want it so bad but it’s /really/ unlikely and I’ve kinda set myself up for pain here
Did anyone else get likely letters from any of these? I got one from Cornell, so I guess I’ll open that last…I’d rather end with good news and I’m not expecting much else
@Rckw98 I got one from Columbia
@RoadtotheIvies98 what is “mediocre”? I’m betting it is not even close to mediocre!!
@HRSMom,
I agree with you on this. The Ivies are all excellent colleges, but many people seem to think that the list of excellent colleges stops there.
I said earlier that there are probably a dozen colleges that are as strong as at least some of the Ivies. Many people think Stanford is the strongest college in the country, and I think there is a good case for that. Chicago is better than probably half of them, and Duke, Amherst, Willisams and Vanderbilt are arguably better than some. MIT and Caltech are the strongest tech schools in the country overall, although I rank CMU #1 for computer science. Pre-med? You would be hard pressed to do better than Johns Hopkins.
And this doesn’t even begin to address the other public and private schools that are out there where one can get an outstanding education and merit scholarships in some cases including (in no particular order off the top of my head): Tufts, Berkeley, UCLA, Michigan, Texas, Rice, Virginia, UNC, Northwestern, etc.
I think maybe @RoadtotheIvies98 was being sarcastic…note the attempted smiley.
Agreed, As long as you all know it is not a personal thing. I hate seeing so many people disappointed with their college acceptances. A brutal year for sure.
Well ok, maybe I mis-interpreted it as an attempted frown.
The nerves are setting in for Ivy Day. I have offers from some good schools, but I’d give them all away for one of my first choices this Thursday.
applied to 7, all except for cornell, mostly b/c fee waivers were available so why not give the best schools a shot. have received 0 likely letters and am not very hopeful for decisions. but i’ll be okay as for order, probably opening alphabetically.
I am really conflicted on which order do I open them. I only applied to Princeton and Cornell, so there are only 2 possible orders lol.
I think I should open Princeton’s first because I really don’t think I’ll get accepted there, but it is my dream school and I’m afraid that I will be crushed.
On the other hand, I am more likely to get into Cornell, but what if I get rejected there?
I feel extremely lucky that I don’t have to worry about the order of reading the notifications
Advantages of only applying to Yale!
