Ivy Day 2017

Well, we made it. Congrats to everyone who got accepted! I had work last night, so I didn’t get to open my Ivy rejection letters until late. I’ll be attending Johns Hopkins in the fall and I couldn’t be more excited. Go blue jays!

As predicted - a lot of posters in this thread never came back to post their results. It would be nice if they did so future applicants have a better picture of what applying to many/most/all Ivys looks like once decisions come out

Rejected from Princeton after EA deferral. Waitlisted at Harvard. I’m a bit suprised that Harvard was the waitlist not Princeton and a bit disapointed overall, but oh well.

This is a blip in your life. My nephew was in the same situation last year, and he is settled and happy at a non Ivy school, with tons of brilliant students. Please reach out to your family, friends, or guidance counselor.

Accepted to Penn and Columbia  and rejected from Yale

Got in to Harvard, Yale, Brown, Cornell Dartmouth, Penn
Rejected: Columbia Princeton
Waitlist: Stanford

just a note on how Ivy admissions are super unpredictable: I got a likely letter from Cornell and was just given a research award there (!!!), but I was denied at 5 Ivies (HYP, Brown, Penn (although Penn was expected bc I didn’t care lmao)) and waitlisted at one (Columbia). you never know what’s going to happen.

Got in: Cornell, Penn, and Brown
Rejected: none
Wait listed: Harvard, Princeton, and Yale

wish I could give you one of my acceptances. can’t attend them all… what a waste

@ people who’ve been rejected by all, if you’re still lurking like I am, where do you plan on attending now?

Rejected by Harvard, Princeton and Stanford, so now it’s the time for a hard choice between Oxford and UChicago. Not a bad outcome I guess, though my Fitzgeraldian dream is dead now. Congratulations to everybody accepted!

Rejected: Cornell, Brown, Princeton and Penn
Waitlisted: Harvard, Yale, and Columbia
Accepted: Dartmouth!

I was also accepted to UVA (OOS), Northwestern, Hopkins, and BC. Waitlisted by Duke and UChicago. Glad that it’s finally almost over! Just waiting to hear back from Harvard, Yale, and Columbia. Good luck to future applicants

Rejected: Princeton, Cornell, Harvard
Waitlisted: Yale, Brown

Overall, I was waitlisted at 4 schools and rejected from 5. Assuming I don’t get admitted from any waitlists, it seems that I went 0/9 in my applications to reach schools. It happens more often than you’d think, especially with the hypercompetitive nature of college admissions in recent years. Just write your heart out and hope for the best.

Thank god this experience is finally over - except for the pending waitlists at yale, duke, brown and vandy

@lhw1998 feeling the same way. now what to do until waitlist results come out?

GUYS I just got an email from myself that I’d written when I was feeling most stressed at the beginning of the application process. I was so nice to myself… At least my predictions about being rejected everywhere came true lol

This was my Penn ED results post - I was rejected by Duke, Northwestern, and the 7 ivies i applied to (didnt apply to dartmouth). Not even a single waitlist… If you are an Asian male applying from the Bay Area (especially a competitive private school), just know that it is nearly impossible to get into the top east coast schools RD if you are not the top of your class and have glowing ECs (I thought my ECs were great, but even with my good grades I wasn’t top of my class, and my recs weren’t perfect)… and actually impossible to get into HYP. IF u really want to go to one of those schools, APPLY ED TO ONE OF THEM, and apply for a relatively obscure major (it actually does help, believe me). Also, bay area kids have a much higher chance of getting into Stanford than HYP (no idea why, but it’s been proven), but the risk of wasting your early school is not worth it. Meanwhile, I’ll be going to berkeley! super excited, but still disappointed with all the rejections. Last year, I got cocky reading college confidential and thinking that my ECs could get me into a top 15 school, but being asian in the bay area means youre playing a COMPLETELY different game. Take my advice if you really care about going to an ivy or whatever, and play it safe, because this kind of stuff actually happens…

Why you think you were accepted/deferred/rejected: The two spots Wharton had for the unhooked Bay Area Asian males were already taken up, so shucks. And I guess I’m boring.
