Anyone knows where to find info on chances of getting off the waitlist at penn and / or columbia?? Dd waitlisted at both, regected at harvard…

I wonder who the lucky kid is who got into all 8

^Hopefully no one. The advertising of “student gets into all 8 ivys” only feeds applications to all 8 ivys when these schools have very little in common except their tiny acceptance rate. Its just for the extra fame of it.

Waitlisted: Columbia
Accepted: UPenn (!!!)
Most likely going to Penn. These were the only two Ivies I applied to, and I’m extremely excited to have gotten into the one, especially being the first in years from my school to have gotten into one without being recruited. Super excited!

@suzyQ7 The school’s are diverse in nature, but so are a lot of the students who apply. Especially if that student has a wide range of interests (like myself), environment won’t affect a driven student as much and they could strive under any field at any school. Curriculum outline won’t make or break someone’s college experience. A great student at a great school will find a way to make it work. I think it’s unfair to say it’s just for fame. It’s so hard to get into any of these schools, by applying to more you increase your chances of getting into this impressive club full of opportunity. Plus, some of the Ivies do financial aid matching, so it could also be a financial thing.

I truly hope some kid who’s worked incredibly hard for the past 4+ years gets to be able to choose from all 8 of these amazing schools. I would never wish rejection upon someone just because I don’t understand their reasons for applying

Not true. Applying to multiple Ivies does not increase your chances at any particular school. They are independent events.

I truly hope some kid who’s worked incredibly hard for the past 4+ years gets to be able to get into the schools they really wanted to get into. The increasing number of applications to more schools every year brings down the acceptance rates for all the hard working students. The 'applying to all ivys" mentality hurts other applicants.

Is there an equivalent Harvard parents thread?

No. For some reason, there seem to be fewer Harvard parents here, although there are a couple

@suzyQ7 once accepted students deny the offer for another school, someone gets off the waitlist. They aren’t denying anyone any spots. And applying to more schools DOES increase your chances of getting into the Ivy League. You are trying your chances at more schools. You can’t determine whether or not a student “really wanted to get into” a school. The time and effort that goes into applications shows enough interest. You should just be happy for any student that gets into all 8. God knows they worked hard enough for it.
