I am parent of two Haravrd undergrads. But daughters attended on full need based scholarships. I can not tell you much as I only knows a little what daughters told me. My Harvard knowledge is zilch as I never myself attended that college.
Harvard square is very lively place, cafeteria food is ok but repetitive. If you are invited to Hillal food, it is great. Dorms near the river are big.
kid can be in on full need based aid, and room mate parents could ve multi billion dollar families. It happened to both kids. Good friends after school.
we have to go full Pay at UPenn which is the only ivy I got into. my other main option at this point is Pitt with full tuition in state. I’m really stuck. I truly love both, but I don’t know if Penn is worth the 300k over years…
@college99 If you plan to go to graduate school I would strongly consider schools with FA thus save as much money as possible to use for grad school.
@noanswers There is but it is deeply buried and not active at all (the last post is from October 2017). You will find it on page 13 in the Harvard section.
I only applied to Princeton and was deferred than rejected, but I still have other good options and I’ll save a lot of money staying in-state in NC. I’m definitely going to try again though for Grad school! Congrats to everyone who got in, and you all will do amazing things regardless of where you go for undergrad
I remembered that today is the day!! Wanted to stop by for the excitement!! DD’s Ivy League decision day was 4 years ago today!! Wow… time flies!
@college99, what’s your intended major?
My D has not checked her 4 ivies yet.
I can’t stand waiting, so she won’t check just to irritate mom and dad. It’s 95% likely to be four denied, but D seems to like hanging onto that slim glimmer of hope of an acceptance.
I am debating throwing her out of the house…
@sekere62 - your dd’s college responses are like Schroedinger’s cat! They are simultaneously rejections and acceptances, however she chooses to think of them.
On the plus side, she’s showing huge capacity for delayed gratification, which is one of the traits that strongly predicts success. With that kind of strength, she’ll be awesome no matter where she goes to school.
How many of those who were accepted to multiple Ivy’s are not going to Columbia to free up spots on the waitlist?
@collage99 Nope…300K over 4 years, yikes. I know doctors who are still trying to pay off their loans from medical school
@srk2017 @ambkeegan yup I am thinking med or public health policy. While Pitt overall might be ranked lower it is comparably strong in regards to life sciences and public health. I don’t want to spend the next four years of my life constantly in debt (and while my parents can pay the EFC on paper there is a lotttt of stuff going on that would make Penn a burden). It sucks that I might have to turn it down- but I’d rather drown in debt for med/grad school (terminal degree) than do that right off the bat in UG. Hey, at least I still know that I got into 1 ivy!
